Default Wheel Experience needed

RE: My 2004 ZO6. Looking at the TSW Nurburgring. Either a 17 x 9/18 x 10.5, or 18.9 x 9/ 19 x 10.5 combination. One concern is the difference from stock offsets: 54 stock-50 TSW front, 58 stock-65 TSW rear. Is it enough of difference to cause problems, etc? Any experiences/advice about the wheel application and the possible size combinations? Or tires run with these? I have done a lot of forum searches and have that info, but am posting this specifically in hopes for additional wisdom. Thanks.

Here are the OEM Specs for the C5 wheels:

Backspace/offset dimensions are as follows:

C5 (coupe/vert):
Front 17x8.5", 58mm offset = 7.03" backspace
Rear 18x9.5" 65mm offset = 7.81" backspace

C5 Z06:
Front 17x9.5", 54mm offset = 7.38" backspace
Rear 18x10.5", 58mm offset = 8.03" backspace

If you run the calculator with the OEM C5Z06 wheel specs as "current" and your proposed wheels specs as "new" you will get results that tell you what the inner and outer edges of the wheel do relative to the OEM wheels.

I ran it for the above combination and the results were:

Rear: Inner edge has 7MM less clearance. Outer edge is retracted 7MM ,
Front: Inner edge has 10MM MORE clearance. Outer edge is retracted 2MM.

In a nut shell the rears will appear sunk into the wheel wells instead of nearly flush like the OEM C5Z06 wheels. Fronts will appear nearly unchanged unless your eye can discern 2MM.

I personally would not go with the 17/18 combinaton. Tire selection for 17" wheels is pretty bad IMHO. Not much better for the 18"...

2MM = 0.078 in and 7MM = 0.275 in.

Thanks for the great info. I had thought about the possibility of the tire getting sucked in that 1/4in or so and wondered how visually acceptable that would be for me. Years ago, I probably would have made it up with a spacer, but really not warm to that idea now. I definitely see what you mean about tire selection for 17/18. My 04 Z has the original GY ((10,400mi) so I have been researching that. I think there are people running the TSW set up, maybe I can get a look sometime. Thanks again for the reply.

not the 18/19 but I have the TSW Interlagos in 9x18 and 10.5x18 and no issues at all

don't see why the 19 rear would be a concern

light, strong, and true -- IMO a great wheel for the price

Thanks to all for great info. The plan definitely coming together As pointed out earlier, the 18s or 18/19 give more tire choices.

now I'm running 275 .35 front and 295 .35 rear Michelin Pilot Super Sports

that yields a F to R diameter ratio of 0.979

OEM 265 17" on F and 295 18" on R was a ratio of 0.97

I wanted to stay close to that so the Active Handling wouldn't kick in all the time when spirited driving occurred

I normally turn it off if I want to get spirited but I'm old and sometimes forget

Thanks. It's looks like you have the ratio close to stock indeed.

This is becoming kinda crazy. When I think of the number of wheel swaps I've done on probably too many cars in my time with not a whole lot of research it makes this this C5 Z swap look like a masters thesis. But this is my first go a trying to please a computer, so I want to get it right.

I am now getting close to making the 18 all around scenario a reality. My plan: TSW Nurbugring 18 x 9 front, 18 x 10.5 rear. Tires Mich PSS 265/35 front, 295/35 rear. The diameters are 25.3 and 26.1 front-rear. This looks like the original stock diameters with the GYs. See any problems with fit, computer etc.? Pretty good hunk of coin, so I want to be sure. Thanks for any opinions.

I ran those sizes in PS2 Michelins and those sizes are virtually identical in diameter ratio F to R to OEM specs

you will not have any problems

Neil. I have ordered the Nurburgrings, and will run PS2s with them. Thanks for your help. I was wondering what lugs you used with your TSWs? Does shank, wall thickness, length of threads have to be addressed as opposed to stock?

I run these on all 20 studs

http://www.gorilla-auto.com/small-diameter-locks

the black 12mm x 1.5

food for thought, the Pilot Super Sport is IMO superior

300 tread wear instead of 200 and seems a lot grippier

don't know if the sizing works for you and don't know price difference, but I did have the PS2 and now have SS

Thanks Neil. I wondered if small diameter lugs would be the best. Also, I will revisit the Michelin choice.
