Not really any good way to do it. Brute force worked for me. Large needle nose pliers with lots of twisting and pulling with an occasional poor choice of words... There has to be a better way.

# 5 and #7 are tough.

I used a long Cheap Plier that has a large round opening and does fit on the Metal plug shield. It worked for me especially the buried #7 plug. Nothing pulled apart but I did replace the wires anyway as they were the old OEM's ( now they are Spares) with the GM Red performance wires. You can get a set of 3 sizes in a package at Harbour Freight.

I used long needle nose pliers and disconnected them from the coil first, but at that age be surprised if one comes off in one piece. also for back driver's side, disconnect the vacuum line on the booster so you have more room to maneuver.

If you are going to replace the wires: I used vice grip pliers on the hex shaped portion of the boot. The locked in place pliers allowed much greater pulling force. Got them off in a jiffy but did destroy some of the wires. Also suggest to wear gloves...when they break free, watch out.

There is a tool for pulling the wire boots off spark plugs - not very expensive and can probably be found at places like Harbor Freight, Sears, etc. Makes it easy to do the job.

Pull, cut, tare, rip them off any way you can and replace them and the plugs. Good luck with the plugs also, they can be a real bitch. Add never seize to plug threads and spark plug boot & electrical connector dielectric grease with a cotton swab for help both getting the boots on and off.

12 year old plug wires!! LOL! RIP PULL TEAR,, use a winch.. What ever it takes! Get them off. Save your cans (shields)

FACT! Plug wires do NOT make HP. DO NOT anguish over what new plug wires to purchase. IMHO,,,, The very best BANG FOR THE BUCK is the GM Red Performance wires. They fit properly, look great and are excellent wires. They are approx. $65.

I order mine from Gene Culley. - Gene Culley GM Parts: http://www.cultragfactoryparts.com/

Order some new Iridium GM plugs gapped at 0.040" and enjoy the new drive..

Thank you for the referral. You can find them at the link below. They are not in the standard catalog as they are a GM Performance Part and not a replacement part.

At 12 years old, you need new ones, so it doesn't matter if you destroy them getting them off! You need new plugs too!
