C-5 1999. When you start it up the Top hose goes flat. By opening the surge tank cap you can hear hissing of air & the hose opens up. Until it gets cold again, Thank's Gentleman. I Appreciate, Helping a friend. Gene from C-3 ..
Hey Gene! It's been a while since i was on the C3 forum. We traded parts a few times.
It sounds like time for some routine maintenance. Replace the hose and t'stat. Bleeding the air out of the system afterwards is a bear so there are specific steps to doing that. I'm sure someone else will chime in on that.
Seen this DOZENS of times... All that's wrong is you have a DEFECTIVE PRESSURE CAP on the coolant reservoir.
There's a NEW UP-DATED 18 lb cap and its not expensive.
Yours has a plugged relief valve . It should allow AIR IN the cap when the cooling system cools down and NOT allow pressure OUT when its HOT. If its working properly, the TOP HOSE will not collapse!!

Simple as that!
I agree. I had the same issue and a new cap did the trick
