Just so you know, the C5 uses the earlier (non LS) input shaft in it's 4L60E. This means any converter built for a 1987-1992 700R4 will work as well as any 1993-1997 4L60E will work. The 4L60E made a 1 year appearance in the C6, but it had the LS style input shaft.
I've only had to experience ONE Torque Converter swap. After we seated the TC into the transmission, the Torque Converter shell was rubbing on the back of the bell housing!
SOME NOTES/LESSONS LEARNED!
When you install the new converter with the ATF, the converter needs to seat on three mating surfaces/shafts. You rotate the converter CW & CCW while pushing in on the converter and it will seat on the first shaft, the second shaft and then on the oil pump drive.
When you have the TC properly seated, and rotate it inside the Trans bell housing, it will RUB on the back of the housing!! IT IS NORMAL!
When you put the transmission back on to the Torque Tube housing, the TC will need to be pulled towards the Torque Tube flex plate. That takes care of the contact that you will experience.
