I just changed from the OEM Goodyears to Firestone Firehawks, and wanted to pass on my first impressions. Much quieter, smoother, and the grip is good. It really is a significant difference; if you are on the fence about tires, as I was, I can recommend the stones. :yesnod: :D
The Firestone Firehawk's are a great tire. I've got them on my Z28, my buddy has them on his C4. Being a tire dealer, I recommend them all the time for both F & Y Bodies. Haven't had any complaints yet. And compared to Goodyear, Michelin and BFG they come as the cheapest too (here in Canada anyway)! Can't go wrong.

carpe dm, how do your wheels look? Other posters have commented that the extended "rubber rim protector" that Firestone puts on the FireHawks have a tendency to make the wheel look smaller when looking at the wheel from quarter angles. Is this true?
Mark: Because of the protection rim, the tires do look a little different, but no necessarily smaller. I really like the tread pattern and the sidewall look too. I never thought I could be "enthusiastic" about tires at my age, but I am!! :smash:  BTW, I got my tires from Mike too. Crown Auto Emporium (Toronto), (519) 763-8473. This is not an ADV for them, I just appreciate good service.
I heard these tires are skinnier than goodyears as far as treadwidth (even though they are both 275s) and this difference is noticeable when looking at the car from behind is this true.
I believe they are about an inch smaller than the GY runcraps, but have much better ride and feel. Only way to tell is if 2 cars are parked side by side and that is what you are looking at. It would be hard for anyone to tell that they are any smaller while running down the highway and cruising speeds.

My feelings exactly...I can't tell that my FS are narrower than the GY...and when I look at other C5's, I've never thought that any of them had fatter or narrower tires. You would really need to be looking hard and have them side-by-side to see any difference---and even then the FS have a better-looking tread pattern.
.
The contact patch is one inch narrower on the Firestones than the Goodyears, due to the tire curving in at the tread. Some people think this makes the car look less mean. The Goodyears are more square where the sidewall meets the tread. I'm still waiting for someone to tell us the difference between driving a C5 with non-runflats and switching to a C5 with Firestone runflats, both cars with new or almost new tires - is there still a disadvantage with the Firestones in terms of handling, ride quality and noise?
