Thinking that this info might be good, but related more toward the clutch area. Good luck..

Wells its not a transmission. lol jk

Got my trans back from RPM today. The guys there treated me really well. Let me ask all kinds of terrible questions and answered all of them. They definitely know what they are doing. I would suggest them to anyone and will surely be going back for any drive train upgrades in the future.

Seems the trans that was in my car was not the original trans that came in the car, it was a factory remanufacture or something like that. already had the steel 3/4 shifter fork and they said they tag wasn't the factory tag. Also it seemed to be in decent working order. Replaced my reverse gear because the syncro teeth were worn some and they said it would be an issue later.

This morning when I was checking to make sure everything was in the car that needed to be, I started fiddling with the shift rod on the trans and could get to other gears besides 3rd.. So now I don't know what the original issue was unless it was just a random fluke or weird bind. idk. at that point it was too late to turn back. I just wanted to eliminate problems and be sure of each part now.

I haven't found any other posts with similar issues to what I was having so at least my situation will be logged for any future instances I guess.

So my plan now is to basically test every single part that I put back on.
That being said, I ordered a new GM slave cylinder while I have all this apart, and will be reinstalling the drivetrain as soon as it arrives.

Then will be to inspect the shifter box on the MGW short throw to make sure it is not restricting anything.

Then I will be trying to check the master and most likely replace it with the tick adjustable unit. Then at least my entire drivetrain from flywheel back will be in order....

Now the slow process of ordering gaskets and fluids and slow reassemble.

wish me luck..

oh yeah and a pic of the tranny after she got all done up. lol

Might be a long shot, but when my car did something kinda similar,it was that one of the springs on my clutch disc came out when I got on it and wedged itself between the disc and flex plate and I could not get it back into neutral, check your clutch out very good, make sure all the springs are still in the clutch disc,I think there's 4.

I will definitely be checking the clutch before reinstall of drivetrain. Thanks for the heads up though. Ill check that for sure.

That wouldn't bind up the shifter linkage with the engine off the way he described.

.

I have a MGW short throw on the car, I don't know if that makes any difference..

Thanks
Jeff[/QUOTE]

Have you checked the Screw that connects the MGW to the trans shift rods?
If this screw is not lined up or loose it will give you shifting trouble.

Here is there link.

Was it a Spec brand clutch by chance? I'll try to look over my clutch tonight.

Yeah, it kinda sucks.. but thats my luck.. One positive is that I now know the car inside and out. The only thing I havent seen inside yet is the engine. lol

And I have a stage 4 build by RPM who I cannot stop praising.. I'm so happy with my visit to them and how good they are at what they do. They hooked me up BIG time! I think I have told most of my car friends about them already and how impressed I was. I sincerely wish this post makes more business for them!

The MGW performed flawlessly all the way back from NC so I assumed it was installed correctly. I also just ran out and checked the MGW shifter assembly out and it seems to freely move in all directions so I think it might be ok.. I dont see anything in the link that talks about a screw, but I assume your talking about the TORX bolt that holds the shifter box to the linkage connector?? If so, it was tight and in the slot designated for it when I removed it.

Good read!

thanks for the link. I purchased a GM slave along with a speed bleeder from Tick performance yesterday so as soon as it gets here, reassembly starts.

I will definitely follow that links advice and flush all the fluid at least twice a year.

When mine did it,it did make it difficult to put in gear, the pedal would not release so I couldn't shift,so it did kinda feel like it could have been the shifter.

That's what I figured was wrong with mine. thought I broke a key and the syncro wouldn't move forward off of third.. but the keys all looked good.

Well F word... to be safe... does this forum allow cursing?

I didn't get a chance to inspect my clutch last night, but I'll definitely be playing race car tonight a little bit.

I just pulled the inspection cover and bell housing for the clutch and everything looks good on mine. still looks like decent life left too.

I wasn't expecting to find any issues there, but I figure why not check it out while I'm that far in already?

Well they didn't find anything wrong besides the reverse gear teeth that the syncro uses were worn. the teeth the outer ring slides onto..

So then they just did the stage 4 build.http://www.rpmtransmissions.com/page31.html

here is the link to their site and what I have... plus the bronze fork pads and a new reverse gear. mine was worn a little bit.

I already had it out and apart so I figured it might as well be built a little bit so I won't have to worry about it for a while.

UPDATE.

So I got the full drive train back in the vette. and I do have all gears now. No idea still what exactly was wrong.

I sucked all the old fluid from the master cylinder, flushed it and bled the clutch system with new fluid.

Drained the diff while it was out of the vehicle. So I filled it today with Royal Purple Max Gear 75-140.

I'm waiting on my Royal Purle Syncromax to show up in the mail since its not available at any stores near me for the trans.

Also waiting on Header gaskets, Header to Mid-pipe rings, AIR gaskets, and mid-pipe to over axle gaskets to come in the mail. And then she will be buttoned up and back on the road.
