I have a 2002 coupe 6 speed and it starts but shuts right back off , my display flashes no oil level so I assume it's the switch in the side of the oil pan that's bad. I have not checked for codes , I had to be somewhere so I drove my second car but I can check later. Just wanted to see if anyone has had the same issue as this before. Thanks for any input
NO such switch from the factory in the C5 oil pan that shuts down the engine when there is NO oil pressure. If the car is shutting off immediately after it starts it is NOT because of no oil pressure unless the engine is seizing that quickly......
Codes should help point in the direction of what is happening.......
100%
Try and HOLD the key to the start position a little longer and see if the engine will run while you hold it there.
the only codes that are stored are for the ABS and the hvac system , oil level is fine and I did try to hold the key to make sure it was not the ignition switch. There is a oil level switch in the oil pan but I have not got the car in the air to check it yet.
That oil level sensor is on the passenger side on the back of the oil pan. If you are seeing the low oil level message in the DIC then I'm betting that your headers have toasted the wires or connector. I agree with Bill that the car will start and run EVEN if the sensor is bad or the wiring/connector is damaged.
What gets me is I just drove the car the day before yesterday and had no problems and I get in it today to and it starts and then dies out. I guess I will check the wires on the switch and then check my fuel pressure and see what it's reading . Thanks everyone for your input , when I find the problem I will post it up.
