So today when I went to start the car all I got was a click. Wouldn't even try to turn over. After I tried a couple of times I smelled something burning. I thought it was a bad battery so I bought a new one and same thing. Could it be a bad starter? Is there a way to start it so I can get to the shop? Thanks in advance.
Auto or manual? If its manual click key to run and get some guys to help push start it. After that if you smell burning and a clicking noise I would check the solenoid on the starter and all connections. have a buddy put their hand on the starter while you crank it be sure to have them be careful of pulleys and what not, but have them feel for a hum while you try to start it, like its trying to spin but hung up. Then get under it and look for burnt wiring coming off the starter. ext step remove it and have autozone or oreilly's check it.
Here is a POST for your check out. See if you can use it to solve your issue. Find the TDR and make SURE that its energizing when you turn the key to CRANK.
It's very possible that your engine could be hydro-locked, I would pull all your spark plugs and see if it cranks over, by your description it could also be your starter. Good Luck

Why would the car be hydro locked after sitting? Is that possible?
