Very doable! You just have to get it high enough.

So, who is going to make a how-to video for this? I have a RPM tranny on the way, still need TQ converter and diff. The faster I get those last two items, the sooner I can make the video. I'm taking donations!

i have done this 3 time's now you once when i had my transmission rebuilt then few year's later when ( few months ago) when i had my motor rebuilt..and once on a friends c5 to have his transmission rebuilt...you need to have 31'' from the floor to the lowest part of your rear bumper..that will ensure you have enough room to get your driveline out of the car with out any issues...its very doable and really not that hard...3rd time i did this i had it down to 2 hours

The harbor freight trans jack makes it easy to lower the whole rear drive line.

31" is pretty high. It doesn't have to be any higher than shown in the pics above. The trans will come out of the wheel well with a little finagling. The trans pan isn't flat on the bottom and won't set on the jack squarely so I made a box about 2.5" high and cut a hole in the center to allow the trans to set on the transmission jack properly. You can see the box under the transmission in post #4 above.

an atv jack is a must have in my opinion for anyone doing this job on jackstands, it makes it a whole lot easier to maneuver the rear assembly

Very doable, I just did mine by myself for the first time ever and I did it on the floor with maybe 24" clearance. Maybe less, just got to take your time and be methodical..... also don't forget where you put bolts..... I spent the majority of the re-installation time trying to remember which "Safe spot" I put the bolts and screws at....... But its not bad. Also, while your in that general vicinity, might be smart (depending on vehicle mileage) to replace the rear main seal. Cost me 59$ through a dealer with military discount for the whole back plate w/ gasket and seal. Just my .02. Good luck!

I buy extra bolt bins and cheep plastic bags for nut and bolt storage. It seems a bit tedious upon tear down but it makes assembly run so smoothly. Much less anxiety.

Rent a transmission jack. That was a limiting factor for me, the whole assembly is simply too big to carefully/safely maneuver out of the bottom without one.

on the transmission jack. It makes things easier. I'll assume auto trans.

While on a lift it gives you an idea on what has to come out. I have done a few clutch changes without a lift.

You should be able to leave the torque tube in the car but it isn't a bad idea to check the couplers and bearings in the torque tube.

Yeah, once you get started on something like that it's usualy not as bad as you think especially if you already have the tools. It's just hard to get me motivated anymore on something like that I've never done before. And honestly most everything else anymore too. {LEAD IN ***}

It really isn't that bad. I do recommend pulling the intake manifold in case the motor tilts.
