Driver’s side of the block has an oil pump gallery hole.
One side of the gasket has material that seals around that hole. Just make sure that you put that side of the gasket on that side of the block.
It’s pretty obvious once you actually LOOK at the gasket BUT, like I stated, If you are not paying attention, you can put it on BSS ACKWARDS and it will fit. It will also LEAK.

another thing I forgot to mention, if you do take the front cover off to replace the gasket I highly recommend a front cover alignment tool... you can get them fairly cheap from saccitycorvette and they are well worth the money... if you replace the balancer only you don't need one but if the cover comes off it needs to be centered in order to seal properly... the first time I ever did a front cover gasket I used the balancer to "center" the cover and then tighten the bolts and it leaked, so I bought the tool and did it again and it was bone dry afterwards... personally I would rather spend $40 on a tool rather than do that job twice
