Default 2001 z06 spitting oil

hello, I am trying to diagnose a problem that started this week. Upon start up I get a decent amount of oil spitting out and a little smoke (I don't think anything more than normal). This just started this week. It's an 01 with 53k miles. I usually put a quart in every 1-2k miles but within 300 or so miles, the light is back on. L any thoughts ?

Assuming a stock engine, no blower- as a start, replace the PCV valve and make sure the PCV lines are open.

You might also put a catch can on it to see what accumulates.

It might take a while for the oil to be cleared if it is a bad PCV valve.

If the above does not help, check compression, but at 53 K it should not have any significant wear.

are you certain it is oil and not a mixture of water and carbon?

I AGREE!!! The VERY FIRST thing that needs to be looked at is the entire PCV system. You have the newer and improved 2001-2003 system which is much better than the old LS1 system.

Here is a schematic of the two system. There is a rubber boot on the PCV and boot that connects the line to the valve. Those are well known to ROT and crack. Make sure yours is not cracked and its connected properly.

Remove the oil fill cap with the engine running. If the PCV is function properly, there should NOT be any outward flow of crankcase gasses from the oil fill. You normally get a little reverberation of air but little or no out flow.

The later years 2001-2003 PCV is improved but NOT perfect. A good quality catch can will HELP keep excess oil out of the intake manifold and out of the combustion chamber.

Pull off the air bridge and flop open the Throttle blade. Use a flashlight and see how much OIL is on the floor of the intake manifold!!!

Looks like water and carbon from the exhaust system.

Looking closely the liquid appears to be clear.

Wow thank you All very much. I will look into the pcv

The description below is very helpful and I appreciate it.

haven't dug into it any further but just started my car and nothing came out. Wonder if it is carbon?
I went through a fancy car wash recently and I believe they cleaned a bit in my b&b exhaust tips.... maybe some. Carbon broke loose and was tnixing with the water that I see on my cement.

My low oil light came on and I had recently topped it off. That's what had me concerned but no longer on. I'll check the level in a few minutes on the dip stick.

Sounds like Luke regardless if this is oil or not, I may as well get a catch can.

Sorry this his response is so sloppy . I am having a lot of issues typing on my phone and can't see what's being written
