Several years ago, I changed to after market wheels on my 98C5.
I lost the locknut socket for the wheels and the serial number for it.
Are there any solutions other than removing and replacing the wheel locks
and socket?
If not, how do you remove them? If need be? Thanks.
Wheel lock are useless. Back in the day you could buy any brand of wheel locks off the rack you could have a high chance of somebody buying the same key that you have.
Pepboys and another store I worked for stopped selling a few brands including Mcguard for this. When Chicago thief's caught on to this they started buying all the locks on the shelf to have all the keys for these locks. We stock em and few days later we be out completely.
We even had people come in to complain the locks sucked as they had their wheels stolen from them. I wonder why.

craftsman makes the lugnut removal sockets they look like deep sockets and once you buy these you will never waste the money on locking lug nuts again.

Unfortunately, that's the reality of thinking wheel locks will prevent the wheels from getting stolen if a thief really wants them. It could be worth going to a tire store and asking them to remove the locks.

This thread reminds me of what happened to me when I was about 18 years old. I had a 66 Shelby GT 350 stolen from a Mall in Dedham, Mass. I went there to buy locking lugnuts for my wheels, so they would not be stolen. After 15 minutes, when I went to get back in my car, it was gone, stolen. I had the locking lugnuts in my hands. Never saw the car again.
Now I wouldn't park a car like that in a Mall and I certainly have no use for locking lugnuts. That car is worth alot of money now, if it's still in one piece. . I replaced it with the 65 Corvette I still have.
I have the Craftsman set, they work great and if I was a thief I could steal a set of locked wheels nearly as fast as some with standard lug nuts! If you really want wheel locks that work I believe Gorilla makes some that have rotating barrels which are almost impossible to remove with lug nut removers.
