Hey guys, newer C5Z owner here. Trying to find out if this smell is common or not.
It's hard to explain, but it's definitely not Tires or gas. Could it be clutch? Im not launching it or going completely nuts. Just a couple pulls from 2nd to 3rd getting up to ~5.5-6k RPM in second. Clutch acts fine during daily use and doesn't stick or feel squishy during/after the spirited driving.
Anyone have an idea? Sorry if this has been asked before, did a quick search and didn't find anything. Thanks!
Is it an acrid smell that kind of sticks to the back of your throat? (CLUTCH)
Burnt Oil Smell?? )
(Oil Leak somewhere.
Sweet Smell (Antifreeze)
Wish we had a SCRATCH & SNIFF for the post but, need to better define and describe it.
Bill
No kidding on the scratch and sniff
Not a sweet smell, but also not pungent/unpleasant smell either.
No oil leaks - No marks on driveway, also just had it changed 3 days ago and everything looked good according to the mechanic. When I first smelled it (Has done it since I bought the car in March) I definitely thought it was oil. It has a "thick" smell to it. Since I've never smelled it until then, I can't really describe it very accurately.
When you say it's "not gas", I'm guessing you mean in its raw state. It could, however, be your cats reacting with the heavy amounts of fuel you're throwing through them during full throttle pulls; in which case, it would be "gas", just in a processed state.

Looks like you're right!
After searching around a little more, not just on vette forums, it seems to be coming from the cats. Plenty of people describing the exact scenario I'm experiencing, with a similar smell.
