Yeah, I did read it all, but when it locked in the parking lot of the tire place, not to many options left. Tried for over an hour with the pull key, wait 10 seconds , etc. and the jerk hard on the steering wheel options. Nothing worked and could not install CLB in their parking lot. Had this happened at home, I would have jumped all over it, but that was not an option. Thanks for everyone's input, but new Red Top did not help and per GM my car got the programming, but not the kit in 2005. 1999 with 21,710 miles just too old in their book so it is what it is. Have had her for 20 years and she only had 2 miles on the clock, we are both getting too old for this much fun.
I did the LMC5 on my 97. I get the Pull Key message all the time. Contacted the gentlemen from Compliance Parts twice; once by email and talked with the owner personally on the phone. Was to send out something that would eliminate this. Never did. My guess, there is no fix and he was blowing smoke.
What year did you install the LMC5 and did you do the brown wire mod?
Guess I did not make myself clear sorry about that, per the Chevy dealer, they did their "TSB" fix (program only) in 2005. Heck, the dealer did not even tell me they did it while I was getting an oil change. I have watched the youtube on the LMC5 and it looks very easy to do. Since my column is locked I have the LMC5 unlocker kit also. (Got both kits last week) Just wish I would have done the LMC5 fixes before running errands and getting stuck in a parking lot with no room to work the fixes. When I get the car back in 2 weeks, I will do the LMC5 then. Dealer will not tell me the part that takes 2 week to get and I have already showed my backside there. Like I said, it is what it is.
SAD!! You need to know that the NEW recall that they are doing will have them install a RELAY in between the column lock motor connector and the column lock harness connector. That relay is suppose to help prevent the pull key wait 10 sec from happening.
That relay can and will fail!!!! ESPECIALLY if you have or get a weak battery. If you install the LMC5, that relay MUST come out!!!! Make SURE that they don't remove the LMC-5 and throw it away if you ever have that serviced again!!!! THEY WILL!!
If it isn't GM, they either wont touch it or they will remove it and turn it back to OEM!!
I have pictures of what that relay harness looks like!
Trust me. It IS NOT a column lock bypass!!
Provide an e-mail address and I will send it to you.

Im very surprised that 8VETTE7 has not replied to this post. He is the forum column lock GOD! See if you can PM him and discuss this issue with him. He knows more about this than most!
Installed the unit around year and a half ago. Brown wire mod isn't for a 97. However, I did try it.
It's possible that you received a defective LMC5. Unlikely but electronic parts can fail.
I had an older LMC5 and got the wait 10 sec message once in a while. Contacted Richard a couple of weeks ago. He sent me a new one.
Send an email to Richard, he is very helpful. I am sure there was a glitch in your communication with him.
I had a problem after installing the LMC5 (fuel cutoff and maybe pull key, I don't remember) . It turned out that I had the terminal on one of the LMC5 pigtails 180 degrees out in the connector.

Could be the issue. He was to send me out something to fix it. Never did.
Hi Bill, Thanks for your help. Per the service lady, the column lock harness connector is what they are going to install. Once they do this, are you saying I can not use LMC5 kit? If I had only installed the kit before the dealer got my car. Talk about a nightmare!!!!

The relay harness connects BETWEEN the column Lock motor module and the cars harness connector that it connects to. In SERIES between the two. It is NOT a very dependable part. It can be removed as easy as it was connected. E-mail sent with the picture of the relay harness,
My 99 had the first steering lock recall done in 02. I missed the second recall that was suppose to be done a couple years later. The dealer has agreed to do the second recall at no charge even though so much time has passed.
The GM recall IS NOT and end all to the column lock issue,, Sure,, the column will NO LONGER LOCK but, that doesn't eliminate the possibility that you will still not be plagued with the 2mph fuel shut off. Which still happens a LOT! You are still stranded.
Get the LMC5 column lock bypass and be done with it. Hell, Ide skip the dealer crap and just get the LMS5 and be done with it.
