There is a lengthy sticky about it.
first, turn off the key and try to turn the wheel.
you may not even have a lock.
there is nothing to tell the computer that it was taken out, except the reprogramming.
if it was not reprogrammed, the computer only relies on an input that tells it that the lock solenoid/mechanism failed.
i put in the relay, and for about 4 years now, it’s been fine.
read the sticky.
A new "Red Top" will replace the 8 year old ASAP and Thanks for the input. Didn't even thing about the battery might cause this.
Weak Battery: YES IT CAN and a whole host of other electrical issues.. I agree, Get the LMC5 and get it installed before you get stranded somewhere that is very inconvenient!
The old "long in the tooth" Red Top was replaced today. The LMC5 came in the mail today, but not sure how to hook it up? Thanks Bill
When you watch the YouTube install video please note that it does not show the following as stated on the Compliance Parts website: Note: For manual trans or export C5s, locate and detach connector from steering column lock relay above BCM
Also you would be well advised to do the brown wire install on page 2 so that you don't have to go back in case as some have experienced they still get the wait 10 sec message once in a while.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call Richard at Compliance. He is very helpful.

The column locked up yesterday and now the car is at the Chevy dealer. Get this, per the dealer the procedure was done in 2005 and I will pay for the next at over $500.00, plus the parts they need are out of Canada (take a week for parts to ship). The parts I got from Corvette Central they won't touch!!!! per the shop foreman and the tech. When it rains it pours.
So you didnt listen to the advice on this forum and took it to a dealership for repair, if you do i little more research on column lock issues you will find anything they do at the dealership will fail again and your out the money and back to square one.
If you are handy you can run speaker wire from the battery to the purple and orange wires removed from the install of the lmc5 lock. Purple is positive orange negative. Takes about 5 seconds to unlock.
I did the LMC5 on my 97. I get the Pull Key message all the time. Contacted the gentlemen from Compliance Parts twice; once by email and talked with the owner personally on the phone. Was to send out something that would eliminate this. Never did. My guess, there is no fix and he was blowing smoke.
