I have a 97 C5 with a cam, CAI, bore, and tune. I have a pretty cheap aftermarket clutch that the previous owner had for the car. Onto the actual problem!
When my pedal is pushed in, I sometimes get a metal-on-metal squealing that sounds like it's coming from the clutch. When this happens, I can't change gears. I can pump at the clutch until I hear a loud "think" from the clutch area, and then she'll shift fine again for a while.
The squeal exists even in neutral.
My first thought is my TOB/slave, but when the pedal is in, the car doesn't try to creep or anything. The clutch is thereby disengaging.
Sometimes, with normal driving, I'll smell the clutch when I get somewhere.
The transmission was rebuilt about 4000 miles ago with new everything that wears (including the shafts).
If no one's got any better idea, I'm going to go to a McLeod down disk with new slave/TOB, new pilot bearing, and TT rebuild. This car's my daily, but not shifting isn't acceptable, especially in Atlanta.
