Hey all, my 01 Z06 sometimes won't start on the first or second try after it's already hot. If I park and try to start it again after a few mins (fuel stop, store trips etc) it'll fire up and immediately die. It happens once or twice, the starts normally.
Could I even trace this issue without diagnostic software? Annoying bug. Any common causes?
Heat equals resistance so it can be fuel pump related or even starter related possibly...is this a "cranking no start" or "no crank - no start" ??...usually these items don't throw a DTC so some good old diagnosing would have to be done...minimum a DVOM needed to measure current flow and voltage...automotive DVOM's are usually limited to 10 amps...my fuel pump draws around 5-6 amps at idle...a bad one can draw more than 10 !!

It's a start and then a shut down, actually. It starts, revs to 1000rpm or so, and then falls right off.
MMMM ???...when it hot and not starting just turn the key ON and see if your hear the fuel pump turn on for 2 seconds and shut off....I'm thinking maybe a bad
crank sensor....also you can remove the MAF sensor connector and try to start it....see if it stays running !!
So if I unplug the MAF and the hot start issue goes away, what's the diagnosis? Is the MAF a culprit, or does the ECU switch functions when there's no reading from the MAF and something in that operation is faulty?
If there is an issue with the MAF sensor the PCM defaults to "speed density" as we call it...it's the MAP sensor !!...we have had some crank sensor issues here on the Forum lately...usually it a cranking no start...I'll usually diagnose a bad one right from the drivers seat...NO TACH movement during cranking is a good sign...yours may be on the way out...I don't like to guess about these issues but since I'm here and you're there that's about the best I can do...and that's my motto..."TEST DON'T GUESS" !!!!!
