I tried this in my car this morning. Let off accelerator in 5th. Car got down to 1k rpm smoothly and just held there. No jerking which surprised me. I would have thought it would start bogging down. But again, I don’t think these cars or any manual car is meant to be in that high of a gear at that low of an rpm. Perhaps your car has a tune.
Ok, this is what I expected based on my manual transmission experience. I've never had a manual that does anything similar to this, but I've never had anything close to a sports car.
As far as it having a tune in it, I suppose that could be the case. The car appears to have been kept up extremely well, and with the exhaust and Blackwing on it, it's possible it was also tuned (it also has the cheaper Hankook non run flat tires on the back as opposed to the Goodyear EMTs on the front, so I suspect they might have had a tendency get loose with it). Is there an easy way to check if it's had a tune or other work done to it?
I've had my C5 in 5th and 6th quite often in the last 17 years and normally let it coast or let cruise handle it on the interstates. I've never had 5th or 6th gear buck or jump like that. I'm sure if I let the car slow down below 45 in 6th gear that eventually it's going to start doing that because the RPMs will drop way too low for that gear. Unfortunately, I'm not experienced enough to give you advice on what may be going on but it's not normal imo.

Thanks for the input. I'm just glad to know that I'm not crazy, and this isn't normal. I found it very strange that this was normal behavior for a vehicle.
No problem, and it's definitely not normal behavior. I drove mine into work yesterday and today. I have a 30 mile one way commute consisting of mostly interstate driving so I set the cruise around 75 and just go. This time I didn't do cruise and I just let off the gas from different points between 55 and 80 mph and not once in 6th gear did the C5 hesitate, buck, or stutter.. Luckily no traffic in the early morning so I wasn't pissing anyone off while doing that LOL
