Default Upgrade help

Hey everyone!

I have a 99, Nassau Blue Convertible. Only upgrade so far is a K&N air filter.

So I was on my way to meet the club to go to a cars and coffee at 0530 this morning when I looked at my heads up and saw the oil pressure maxed! Well, not knowing at the time about the C5 oil sensor, needless to say I became a little puckered! I pulled off and got on the forums and quickly found that I was not looking at my worst fears! Seeing that I had been sidelined too long I returned home and went to a local show. I am also noticing a small amount of oil coming out of my right muffler, out of the muffler seam and not the tail pipe. This happened after a recent oil change, first since buying it, and not sure the prior owner used Mobil one.

My question is, what should I upgrade why I am taking the intake and everything apart?

I am not looking to do heads and exhaust just yet, which I am pretty sure I will be going the trick flow top end route, but am looking more for possibly intake, throttle and so forth. Any other sensors I should replace why I’m at it? Those sort of things. Oh and not looking to do anything crazy like nitrous.

thanks for any direction you can lend!

If the intake is off you might as well do the air check valves as maintenance. Also pull the pucks for the knock sensors. If there is oil inside you can change the seals. Finally, check the tiny hose for the HVAC unit that connects in the back of the intake. Bare minimum extend it to make it easier to reattach. Since it is a plastic hose it might of broke or might break and you wont know it. Check for HVAC codes. they wont trip the check engine light. That could be another indicator the hose snapped somewhere.

You might want to investigate further the oil leak at the muffler. With the temp of the exhaust pipes, if oil is getting from the heads all the way back to the muffler and leaking out there could be a problem. Could more likely be leaky butt syndrome.

New intake and throttle body can wait til you do the heads and cam. Should get a tune for the increased airflow from just a intake and throttle body. The PCM can only compensate so much.

Good Luck

Thanks for the info. I am hoping to get to it soon. It will be the first time working on a LS motor. Usually work on old school chevy so I’m looking forward to it.

Just a few hints on at least how I pull the intake.

Don't drive the car the day before.
Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail. Turn the fuel line up so not much gas leaks out. Have a 3/8 vacuum cap ready and as soon as you disconnect the fuel line put the cap on the fuel rail line
Take the three bolts off from the throttle body. No need to worry about any coolant this way.
Of course have new gaskets (o rings) ready.
2 pieces of 1/4 inch vacuum hose about 1 1/2 inches long each slit long ways. For the 2 rear most manifold bolts.

I started off on 70's Mopars and progressed to 80's Chevys. Its all a simple progression. Wait, can I get kicked off for using the M word???

Good Luck

While you have the intake off there are SEVERAL things that I recommend doing..

Clean the throttle body/throttle blade
Clean the MAF with MAF Cleaner. DO NOT touch the wires in the MAF!!
Remove the plastic cover that covers the top of the radiator. Clean the 1" space between the radiator and the AC Condenser. It will be full of grass, dirt, leaves etc. Back flush the radiator and AC condenser fins with a garden hose on full stream and flush out any sand /dirt that accumulate inside the fins.
Make sure that the little black nylon vacuum line at the back of the intake get reconnected properly when you put the intake back on!!
Replace the intake manifold O ring gaskets with new O rings!!!!

If you had time, I would recommend replacing that LS1 intake manifold with a LS6 or 2001-2004 intake manifold to get a little better air flow at WOT.

As for your oil pressure switch there’s no need to take off the intake all you need a extension, a swivel and socket it’s a tight fit bit you can remove and replace without the intake off there’s a few videos online and I’m sure I wrote a post up on it also.
