Hypertech III Hints
Just received my programmer for my 1998. Are there any hints or advise that I should be aware of prior to programming? Should I use the Hypertech program or custom? I do have a 160 degree thermostat that I'll install also.

Hints:
install performance program (see if you tell the difference)
change shift firmness to 100%
change shift rpms 1-2 +200; 2-3 +200; 3-4 +400
after t'stat install adjust fans to 178 degrees
get in and run it like you stole it

2nd to 3rd +5mph
3rd to 4th no change
Rev limiter 6,200rpm
shift firmness 75%
I did not change my thermostat so I used the 195% optomize setting.
I have a 1998 with Magnaflow with x-pipe and a blackwing and these are the settings that seem to work with what I have.
12.721 @ 111.3 with this set up

but set rev limiter to 6400. At 6200 there is a chance of hitting the rev limiter in first with the plus 2 change.

The Hypertech power program combined with your MAF ends and/or MAT sensor may produce a result similar to mine where at WOT the engine ran very lean with a lot of knock retard. Part throttle was fine, of course.
If you want to play it safe, plan on putting it on a dyno soon after to see where your A/F ratio is and if you see a sawtooth pattern on the curves it is likely due to knock retard kicking in.
