IDK…Aren’t they kind of pricey? We’re talking street heads here…

Well... this took a little while. I got them yesterday. The CNC machine work looks great.

Now to make time for the install...

Yupper, especially on the exhaust side where more material was removed...

...anyway, I think a very good use of a set of factory 243s I had laying around.

I will do the cam and heads install in the next few weeks, and post back here the results.

Best of luck to you! I know how time can slip through one's fingers though -- I've been pulling my IPC for more than a week now...

I had a set of 799's done @ Katech for the standard CNC package and they look fantastic!

They're local to me (i.e., Metro-Detroit area) so it was easy enough to just drop them off. I did have to remove valves and springs, etc., and re-assemble everything, but no big deal.

I really hope the delay is not health related. I was originally on the fence as to where to send my 243 heads for thew CNC porting between TSP and Katech. One thing I noticed is that the cams Katech have on their website are higher lift than I was thinking for a street car and eventually went TSP not for that reason, but it made me pause to how everything needs to work together as a good combo parts.

All good... and all done... started on the 2nd crank.

Install was straight forward, I followed the LS1howto.com instruction document.

Initial thoughts:
  • The Texas Speed cam lobes are definitely not as chatty as classic Comp Cams XE-R lobes.
  • The Melling oil pump (10295) added a solid 10-12 psi oil pressure.
  • The Melling timing chain dampener (BD417-DBRKT), comes with no instructions. There are videos on youtube.
  • The job can be done by yourself on jack stands, but you are going to be up and down a lot.
    • It is labor intensive. I also did... new... rockers, main-front-pulley, lifters, lifter trays, oil-pump, timing chain, main and AC pulleys and belts
    • I could NOT use the old crank bolt to pull the new pulley onto the crank snout. I used the below.
    • Cars of this age... the plastic connectors are very brittle and are easily broken. Try to be careful.
  • The factory ZO6 cam had some pitting on one of the lobes
