Re: Roll bar available for convertible? (Mean Green 2000)
anyone know what it'd take to make that one nhra legal?
Never being able to use your top again!! Mine is as close to "legal" as you can get. I have had it at tech several times and was told as long as I wasn't winning money where someone would protest me, I would never be kicked off a track. BUT, to the letter of the law even mine is not perfect.
Re: Roll bar available for convertible? (jeffh355)
Jeff, that is the best setup I've seen to date. I see that the rear supports are removable and allow top operation... I see some other pins that make me think the whole thing is removable. Correct? Got any pics of the mount points? Very nice... :)

Yes, the whole bar is removable. That's what keeps it from being 100% NHRA legal. I will see if I can get some "under construction" pic's up in a day or so.
Re: Roll bar available for convertible? (bogielake)
What is the tube material and thickness for NHRA? Is it 1 5/8", 0.083 wall chromoly (sp)?
Sorry, don't have the answer to that one. Mine is 2" chromoly, but I'm sure someone in the forum has a rule book that will respond with the correct answer. We went larger on mine for function as well as looks. If no one knows for sure you can call REB's as they specialize in NHRA roll bars.

The NHRA rules specify 1 3/4" O.D. x .118 mild steel or .083 4130 chrome moly tubing.
The issue that keeps these roll bars from being NHRAleagal is that the upper bar must "extend in height at least 3 inches above the drivers helmet with the driver in the normal driving position".
That being said..... Almost any bar will get you through inspection at most tracks.

:skep: :U
A lot of people say vettes attract a lot of attention, ...the only thing people are gonna be looking at on that car is the ugly rollbar and weird, out of place centerbar. No offense :p:
As cool as dropping the top is, with the big bar behind it almost defeats the purpose. With the coupe you can still have the targa top, put the cage in and it will be concealed and 100% NHRA legal if done right. my .02
IMHO, I disagree. I have the Exotic Muscle roll bar in my vert. I rarely use the center bar. With the top up you can barely see the bar. With the top down, I think it looks really cool; gives it that race look and let's people know that you might have something going on in there. I always get compliments on the bar with the top down.

I couldn't agree more, that bars look SWEEET in ragtops. Not to mention the added benefit of surviving an unforseen roll over. As far as holes in the lid in Jeff's car, I heard of someone getting some custom leather patchs that snap onto the lid to cover the holes, way cooool.
