Thanks to all for the warning! I've been checking my 2000 (with 12,000 miles on it) and this time I saw a slight glimmer of liquid down by the retaining bolt. Pulled the battery and there was corrosion down below. Had to remove the wheel and the wheel well to get inside and clean everything out. It even ran out of the wheel well at the bottom and down under the rocker panel for a couple feet. Used a damp rag with baking soda to clean it up. Everywhere it touched the black paint was gone!
I keep this car perfect and suggest that all of you watch out for this and check often. It may not be very visible and in my case appears to have come from the bottom seal of the battery, not the terminals. Luckily the computer underneath (what genius thought to put it there?) appears ok.
welcome to the forum!
the leaking battery is an all too well known problem with the c5.
glad you found it before it caused any damage.
replace it with the AGM 78P7YR part # 19002255.
I personally had the same problem with my 99. My suggestion is, why fool around with Delco batterys, with all ther problems. Go get a No problem OPTIMA RED TOP. I personally find it hard to spend my hard earned $ for a product that they, Delco provides, that they knowingly sell to the public, that causes serious problems for the car owner. My discussions with Delco regarding this problem was a disaster. Basically they told me to go buy another mistake of theirs. No thank you ! I've been there, done that. :mad :chevy
Is that a GM replacement battery part #? Or can I go to NAPA and let them cross ference the part # for me?
Thanks

I STRONGLY advise you to buy only AGM batteries for C5s. The two most popular are the ACDelco (mentioned in the above post) and the Optima Redtop. Both are excellent batteries.
To answer the Bigguy's post, rumor has it that the factory overtightened the connection to the positive post - hence its inclination to eventually allow battery fluid to leak. I have used Delco batteries for 22 years and have NEVER experienced a leak. These batteries were used in my 68 C3 and my 75 Monte Carlo. Therefore, I tend to believe the overtightening theory behind the leaking batteries.
That is great. I was not as lucky. It took me 4 months to find the vacuum lines the battery acid eat through. I took the fender off. Clean the frame and battery well. I patched the vaccum lines with gas hose and my a/c vent louvers & dampers have worked ever since. These batteries can cause alot of problems. I am just thankful it did not get the PCM.
