I have consulted with my local Chevrolet dealer about changing the transmission fluid in my 2001 automatic. I am told that they have tried using a B&G machine to perform this operation on a C5 but after 10,000 miles they had to replace both transmissions.
I went to Jiffy Lube (not my first choice I assure you) and they claim that they can do it by hooking up a machine to the two lines going into the radiator, running a cleaner through the system first and then the transmission fluid.
I sure would like to know what Chevrolet's procedure is on this and if dealers can perform the operation successfully without any fears of future transmission damage.
I am not a mechanic and wouldn't risk trying to change transmission fluid on my own. I live in the Dallas area and would be interested in anyone with experience with a local mechanic or dealership.
Surely Chevrolet Motor Division is not counting on anyone not getting to the 100,000 mile mark and needing a flush. I run my in autocross/drag events plus Driver's edge. Having added a torque converter (PT 2600), I am concerned about old fluid causing damage.
How about instead of a power flush, why not just do it the old fashion way? Drop the pan, change the filter, refill. 84K later and tons of abuse and still going...
I have dropped the pan in the past but the most that you can get out is 4 quarts, leaving 6.8 quarts of bad stuff. I supoose you could keep doing that for 3 or 4 tiems and you would have most of it out. Not what I am looking for but thanks....
