Is it worth it to go with a Titanium exhaust over a stainless? I'm looking to loose a little weight off the 2000' Coupe and am considering the Titanium exhaust for this reason. I'm planning on going with Long Tube Header's, High Flow Cats, and the exhaust system out the back,(probably Corsa Touring). So far I only did Blackwing, MSD Wires, NGK TR55 Plugs, and custom LS1 Edit Dyno Tuning. This is the only other mod I want to do until the factory Extended Warranty is up and I figured a little weight loss would give a little bit better advantage in the 1/4 mi.
Any downsides to the Titanium Exhaust? Opinion's appreciated. :seeya
If weight savings and better perfoarmance is the goal, send an e-mail to JCL (jcl79383@aol.com). He has a great system for C5's that weighs 10 lbs. less than the titaniums, easy to install, flows better and sounds great. And the cost won't send you to the bank for a loan - less than a used set of titaniums.
I put on the Ti system. It has a little more pop at idle and really sounds nice when you get on it. I listened to a lot of aftermarket systems, and many were just too loud or didn't sound good. The Corsa's sound like a foreign car and I don't like them at all. I also am planning on headers some day so I didn't want to be in the position that the headers made the car so loud that another exhaust change would be necessary. I personally feel that the Z06 system is the best deal out there.
I agree on the Ti's. I put a low mileage set of Ti's($500) on my '03 convertable and they have a nice roar when my foot's in it, but mellow under normal driving conditions; and for half the cost of most aftermarket systems. On the other hand, I rode in a '04 Conv with Corsa Indy's and my ears were ringing after a few minutes. It really depends on how much noise you can handle. Another option you might consider is Flowmasters. They just came out with some tips that look like the Z06's. I have not heard them on a Vette so far, but they generally form a good balance between volume under hard acceleration, while still allowing conversation to take place in the cockpit under normal driving conditions.
I just asked Gene at Fred Beans about the cost of a factory Ti system new. He quoted me $2895 for the left and right over axle pipes and the H-pipe. So a Z06 'drop' is about the best bargain going.
Ever met anyone selling their H-pipe as well as the over-axle pipes? That would be a big weight savings, but most folks don't seem to sell their H-pipe.
The H pipe does'nt really weigh that much, so theres not much weight to loose there. The mufflers are where the wait is in the factory stainless. When I put mine on I would swear the two Ti where blighter than one of the stainless. I think I saw somewhere that the weight savings was 14 lbs. Some correct me if this is wrong.
