in the process of installing headers, i like the steel factory gasket, but the headers came with fiber gasket. any one have any input as to which is less likely to leak? thanks!! :smash:  :seeya :auto:
Re: header gaskets , which work best? (Flyin'Brian)
do not use the fiber unless you like changing header gaskets, go with new stock or fel-pro,, have metal to help prevent blow out,, and almost nothin sounds worse than a heade tick ona vette, or any other nice ride
Re: header gaskets , which work best? (vettemaster1)
I used the fiber gasket that came with my FLP's and it's leak free after 8k. I believe that the fiber gaskets work better with the header flange surface than the steel gaskets which are intended for a machined, true flat surface of the stock cast headers. I think the fiber gasket is actually stock for 2000 and older which are welded tube/flange construction.

Not true :nonod:

I've used both in the past with headers and found they both work in fact in the old days only the fiber gaskets worked with headers.
Thats where MR. Gasket was born! :D
The key is to re-torque them after a few heat cycles.
And my 98 came with sandwich steel gaskets.... :yesnod:

thanks for all the input! after looking at the header flange and both the steel and fibre gaskets very carefully, i installed the steel ones. i seem to remember having to change the fiber ones in days gone by, fairly often, no matter how often i tightened the bolts. i guess time will tell. once again thanks for the input! ;) :steering:
