The tuner states he can not tune my car because I am getting false knock and the computer is pulling out 7 to 9 degrees of timing. Chevrolet is playing stupid and says there is no such thing and if there was the is no fix for it. What do I tell the idiots?
I never wash the engine, just wipe it. The headers were just installed by the same shop that is doing the tuning, no header leaks, no underdrive pulley. Thanks for the response, but those are not the problems. Shop had the car 6 days. They tried new plug wires, drained the gas and put in 100 octane race gas, took off the intake cover, The only time the problem went away was when they bypassed the knock sensors.
i haven't heared of problems with newer c5's sensors
i think some of the 2000 c5 had some bad sensors.
its not that involved to change the sensors, the intake mainfold
comes off quick. this might be the next step.
hope someone has a better idea.
Check for loose mounted parts on your car that can ding the body of the car and create false knock. Exhaust systems coming in contact with the body, frame or even body panel are prime candidates for problems like this.
I have seen this happen before with header installations. LG calls it false knock and I seem to remember they can get around it within the tuning ability of the KR functions. Doesn't sound like your shop is familiar with this problem, but I understand it to be fairly common with a header installation. This is one of two reasons I have been holding off on this installation.
