Ahh the bent pin! It is installed to allow you to align the shift linkage to nuteral. In front of the shifter housing is a place to install the pin. If your trans is in TRUE nuteral and the shifter or linkage is in TRUE nuteral the pin should slip right into the hole! You should be able to use a drill bit. If you neeed the proper diameter of the pin I can measure mine and provide it.

I think a 1/8" drill bit will work too if memory serves. As I recall the pin is only used to lock the shifter while performing a shift shaft adjusment procedure. HTH
That is CORRECT!! The pin does not have anything to do with the Hurst shifter. The pin slips into a small hole in front of the housing that the Hurst shifter mounts to! The shift linkage protrudes out of the front of that housing. The pin goes in to that portion of the housing.

FWIW,
I also found that this little hole served as a convenient place to put a little additional lube to help lubricate the front part of the shifter "rail" going through the housing. I then put a small dab of silicone on the hole to prevent any dirt, etc from getting in.
