Ultra Embarrising Upset!
Not to worry, I can let you borrow my 1970 Chevelle SS to put this guy in his place. I can guarantee you that it will not take more than half throttle to put this guy away. With some of the further maintenance work I have completed this spring, we are talking solid 10.80 et's. We can then hand him his **** h_le on a platter .... no ford gonna beat my Chevy !!!!
And...trying picking up chicks in a Taurus.
BTW: I owned a '90 SHO and speak from experience.
Stop it guys. Run what you brung.
A blower plus a 50 shot? Dayum, that guy is pushing it.
You can get good numbers out of a sho. They love boost. I owned one for a short while.......370fwhp. It was a rocket under boost. The problem is that the rest of the car isnt as durable (similar to many chevys out there, so lets not go the whole boring ford pos route).
Good run!
Edit: Added my sig so I dont get shouted down as a clueless newbie.

IMHO if you want to add some mods to your car...
LG G5X2 or G5X3 cam (no heads needed for Z06 IMHO)
3.90 Rear end
Drag Radials
Your probably looking at about $2,500 for the above.
You'll be at 425 at the wheels easy, with an additional 14% torque over the 3.42 you currently have.
I can't believe those tires are spinning in third though, that is an expensive tire for that to be happening....
Some people don't like to spray, but if your down with it throw a 100-125 wet shot and a new clutch into the above mix.

Appears there used to be a nice aftermarket for them.

That had to be one Frustrated individual
So whats the verdict? $48,466 and 2 divorses later... he probably had to go buy an ford escort.
Hello, My name's Fred H(edit) - the former owner of the 1995 Supercharged SHO & the website you folks referenced a couple of times. Don't have that car anymore, still have the wife, and no, I would walk before owning an Escort.
First off, let me say I'm not trying to start anything here, I was just curious about the way the conversation was going to go when I heard about the thread.
Secondly, I lost the 95 SHO to an accident (rear-ended by a 94 Yukon GT back in '02). I currently have a supercharged 1991 SHO for my road course track car, and a 1995 SHO for a daily driver. To address the crowd, here's one point: With an "ugly" car like the Taurus Sedan, you never see it coming when they beat you. It's a great sleeper car, a for-when-it-came-out all around excellent package - power, handling, amenities, etc. It certainly has its downsides, as does every car, but I think the good far outweighs the bad.
I have the utmost respect for the Corvette (I compete against them on-track, and my dad owns an original '64 2-top 327/365 hp 4-speed). It has been mentioned to bring the taurus to a road course, and it won't have a chance - not necessarily so, as I run mine at Watkins Glen, Summit Point, Lime Rock, NHIS, etc., and regularly out-drive Corvette (and Porsche, BMW, & Ferrari, etc) owners - it's all in how the car is set up. Even a stock or near-stock SHO handles pretty well, especially in the rain, when 'Vettes, Vipers, Cobras & more are sliding butt-end first off the track. As mentioned, a lot of it comes from the driver's abilities & take on the track conditions.
That all said, if given the opportunity to trade my track car for a Z06, absolutely. They are a fantastic car, well-deserving of serious respect. My personal choices lately are to move to the Porsche 911 or the new GTO, now that my near-6 year old son is not going to be needing his car seat anymore.
Anyway, there's nothing to be ashamed of, being taken out by any car that's well designed & built - hell, I got passed by a Miata last time att he track... better driver, faster through the corners, so I gave him the point-by, then followed him so I could learn his line. There is always someone higher up in the food chain.
As a reference, I recently posted my 1991 track car up for sale on eBay, and the complete list of everything I have in mine was up there, along with ballpark prices - eBay Completed Auction #2489830144.
Here's a video taken at the 2003 National SHO Convention, 1/4 mile against a Viper... I think I had a 2.6 or 2.8 60' too.
A few supercharged / nitrous-injected SHOs have hit 12's as well. I know of the car mentioned in this thread from the race in Texas, and it's certainly no slouch.

Anyway, it's about the love of fast cars, and respect for them, regardless of Marque or nameplate for me.
Please feel free to pass along to the list, as I wasn't able to successfully post after registering.
Fred (aka Yamaha V6 here).
It probably didn't help that 80 co-workers were on hand watching the race.
I thought I heard you'd raced him also on you bike? Ducati?
I've seen Tony and his SC SHO. One bad machine even though it says Taurus on it.

... Never race anyone you'll have to face day after day, that will make for some good coffee room conversation.
1. There is always something faster than you
2. Theres is always soemthing fast than you that is uglier(SP) too.
3. Pick your battles carefully, you just might get smoked!

Take the high road and leave it alone.
Tom
Remember you have the nicer looking car!

Thanks for posting the message George.
As a clarification, I've got the website and was the owner of the $48k SHO referenced in the thread, I'm not the owner of the car in Texas. Not trying to take credit for the "kill". After re-reading my post, even I was confused.
You guys are a classy bunch, more so than a lot of other forums online.
Fred
Seriously, thanks, and I meant it too - back at you guys. It's refreshing to see serious car nuts being civil online, especially given the circumstances.
The quarter-mile video I linked was a 13.62 @ 108.64 to the Viper's (from memory) 12.88 run at Great Lakes in July, 2003 during the national SHO conventions - street tires & 95 degree temps at the track. The Viper owner sought me out after the playful banter we had on the road course at Blackhawk Farms the day before.

I fragged the Clutchmasters Stage 3/ dual diaphragm clutch on the supercharged 91 Monday on the road course at New Hampshire International (working on uploading the in-car capture of the destruction; hoping that's all it is, just an $800 clutch).
A supercharged SHO is usually horrible from a dead stop - in my experience, there's only a few hundred RPM window between bog & horrendous wheelspin due to the power & tq vs. FWD config. From a roll, these cars are hard to beat though, and Tony's got a very fast SHO with all the goodies.
I'm off tonight & tomorrow to make my final decisions between a '90 AWD 911 Carrera 4 Cabrio or an '04 black on black GTO w/ dealer-installed 18's, ram-air hood & Corsa exhaust. Decisions, decisions.
Best of luck guys, and be safe out there.
I have a 96 SHO myself ( first year for the V8) The SHO is a nice car. You are right on target about there is always someone higher on the food chain. I say go with the 04 GTO
Anyway, we went for a friendly run and I got smoked. I've got maybe 325whp and he had 388 I believe. Anyway, V guys don't seem to care for this. Heck, I don't either. I keep wondeing how much money I have to send to Mallett or Lingenfelter to fix this. But, I bump up the power and I've still got friends like Pakisho who'll dog me. I'd be lucky if I ever see 500whp out of my V.
Remember what the SHO was when it came out. An executive rocket. Nothing short of an M5 could touch it's hp numbers in a 4 door sedan. And even the M5 couldn't pull away too much. In fact, I'd love to see a race between an '89 SHO and an '89 Vette. 220hp vs. 250hp. Pretty good race from a crap Taurus.
I bought a '92 SHO in 1993 when it was still THE sports sedan to have. The M5 started showing some ***** about that time. But for the money and the relative luxury, it couldn't be beat. And it was tough for me to let it go late last year. For what it was, the Yamaha motor was and is a gem, always begging to be revved. It was more fun to rev than my LS6.
But alas, times change and hp changes. 400hp seems like the minimum to compete in the supersedan class. And someday, for the unfortunate of us who just can't afford to keep up with the times and buy new cars every year, some jerk will look down on us and snicker because we're still driving some antiquated '0somethin' Z06 or '04 V when SO MANY better machines are out there.
But if it's a great car now, why not then?
I've owned a SHO and still love 'em. I own a V and love it now.
Oh, hey Fred, hey Oz!!
Just to get me through the 17 more months until the C6 Z06 comes out. Though I am nervouce about buying the first one out. Especially if they pull that upgrade the next years model BS.
= )
Same thing here... Other cars are moving ahead so fast in the HP game, I need to do some thing to make sure that mine won't appear to have the performance of a Chevy Caviler.
