Old and hard 335's? Nope. Brand spankn new Pilots. Maybe 30 miles on em. And It's probably no surprise that he won't race me on a road race track. And its funny, First impressions, I like the supercars much much much better. Better traction and much better handling. Not that the pilots are bad, just not near as good as the supercars.
I know this is hard to do, but my advice is to ignore him. There will always be a faster car out gunning. We get into these pissing contests all the time and what do they prove?
Take the high road and leave it alone.
Tom
This the best advice, but the bad part is I can't say I would be humble enough or smart enough to follow it. An ATi would be on my car the next payday!
Try taking him to some twisties and racing... Lots of cars can make big power and run in a straight line--and if you're into drag racing, its all good but I always thought that a real sports car should be able to do more with its power than run in a straight line.
Race him again, on a 1 mile race. Even if you are a 1/2 car length behind him, 4th gear is where it makes the difference. He'll top out at about 130 and you will fly by at 160. There is no way a pissy ford can keep up with a vette.
335 on a 11.5" rim may look cool but contact patch is less than optimal. Also the pilot are not known for straight line traction, like someone else mention try some curve and you'll find yourself appreciate them more.

30 miles on new Pilots might be a little greasy (new). Road race on a track - the true test of the car and driver. Besides, he's got birth control and you've got style and class!
You allready said what the problem was... boiling the tires through third. Take him to the track, bolt on some ET streets or drag radials and then see how it goes.
Still, 160 is great in a straight line. Take him to a road course & hand him the Blue Oval. Dude, you could make a riding lawnmower do 160, but you can take your Vette & your Lady to dinner in a Vette & do it in style. Forget the Ford. You gotta Vette
if u really want to leave him in the dust and have a deep wallet send it to lingenfelter and have them slap twin turbo on that bad boy do all the other tweaks to make it sit like a good boy and he will sell that ford faster then he gets to work beating those crotch rockets but what the hell not to mant of us have 20000 grand laying around spray him like the pest he is
Ask him how much work he has wasted in that Piece of Crap and you will proably laugh! Let me share something my dad told me when I purchased my first sports car!
1. There is always something faster than you
2. Theres is always soemthing fast than you that is uglier(SP) too.
3. Pick your battles carefully, you just might get smoked!
I'm with George8211 on this one. He knew he could spank you for the first 1/4 mile with a blower and N02. Next time take it to a safe veneue(sp) that you have the advantage like a real race track. I'd like to see it happen at a place like PIR. The back side would be a hoot to see him try to keep up with you. - Ron
Thanks for all the posts. You guys are great! It's is exactly what I had intended this thred to be. Casual, semi-serious conversation, with plenty of humor.
If you are boiling the hides through third gear the first thing I would do is invest in some traction. Heads and cam will work wonders with your headers. If this were a random encounter I would probably ignore it, but this is a friend/co-worker. This sounds like a fun challenge and this kind of comradere is what improves the breed. Get to work on your car and beat him, you will enjoy the results to your car and the victory over your friend. He has to be near the limit of his potential and you have lots to exploit with your car...
Let us know what he has done to make his car fast and the results of your efforts to beat him...
Shirl
PS How stupid do DR's look on the front of a SHO?
I concur with Shirl here. I'll bet you driving on Pilots. dump them for BFG DR's. Since you in Tx, driving daily on DR's is realistic + they grip like mad on pavement. then, go get your mod's tuned right by any one of the bevy of tuners in the area. With 400rwhp and some great driving on your part, your SVO buddy wont hang with you.
