Default Cleaning Haltech (Trap/Stinger) Filters

I think its time to service the filter on my Haltech Trap. Probably have 15+K miles on it.

Do all the reusable filters use the same cleaning and oil chemicals.

I have only seen a cleaning/oiling kit for the K&N filters which I think are cotton. The Blackwing is a synthetic filter according to what I read.

So is there a special kit for the Haltech? Is it cotton fibers or synthetic.

Also how critical is the proceedure and can I drive the car immediately after oiling the filter?

Thanks

Howard, I sent you an IM, but for the sake of others who were wondering, here's my reply:

The Remay synthetic-media filters that most of us have can be cleaned with Simple Green and then rinsed with low pressure water (garden hose) from the inside-out. You should then let the filter dry-off on some newspapers or rags for as many hours as it takes (depends on the ambient temp, but I usually let mine sit Saturday and Sunday) and then lightly spray the filter from the outside-in with K&N oil or oil purchased from Halltech. The oil is colored (red, I think) so that you can see the coverage as you're spraying. Don't spray more than just enough to "color" the filter media, as too much oil may allow the MAF wires to be coated, resulting in a rough-running engine. I would let the oil penetrate a bit (perhaps an hour?) before driving off. Although I haven't had to clean my Warhead filter yet, I've been cleaning K&N filters for the last 20+ years.

If any of you have the cotton-type filter media, you can use the K&N cleaner as well.

Dave

For the benifit of other (as you pointed out) ... are all Haltech Filter media the same. Do they all wash with soap or simple green. Can they be cleaned/oiled with the K&N system or the Blackwing system?????

Thanks

I want to thank my vette buddy Russ for all his help in cleaning and oiling my filter today. It wasn't as hard as I thought and we didn't even need to jack the car up!!

It was full of little road chips and bugs (I have the fog shrowds removed and Z06 type screens). Washed with Green Gunk (Pep boys version of Simple Green),dryed with compressed air (large diameter nozzle-no filter damage) and then warm hair dryer. Oiled with K+N oil.

It definately needed cleaning. I now hit my rev limiter in 1st to 2nd shift....never did that before. Guess Andy is going to have to adust my tune!!

I am going to start another post about this.

Dave: My Warhead was the red version not the Blue. So I don't know if it was Remmy or Cotton...do you?

I believe the red filters are K&N-style cotton; if so, K&N cleaner could've been used as well. In any case, you're all set for another 15,000 miles.
