OK guys, the only vehicle newer than a 1980 model that I tried to powershift had a T5 and it just wouldn't do it... Can we powershift the C5's? I have installed a hurst so that should help. Could I just keep my right foot planted and row through the gears??
I have never had any problems with some of the old 4-speed cars or any motorcycles, but then again I never I had that much of an investment in those either...
I do it too, but it actually slows my time down because the rear end will fishtail a lot between shifts...I usually do a partial powershift on street tires for the best times at the track
I was reading about the C5 and part of the driveline testing involved a minimum of 600 full-on power shifts, without failure.
Sure, it is tougher on the vehicle then not, but so is smokin' the tires, jamin' on the brakes, and railing the on ramps. That is why I got a C5...closest production car to a race car there is, at least that I am aware of and can afford.
I agree with the Captain though, I am faster with a half a powershift. The full program just breaks 'em loose.
I can only share my experience - I used to enjoy breakin' 'em loose from 1-2 especially when I was a few lengths ahead of someone on the street (kind of rubbing it in to spin on the shift) - well, before long my 1-2 synchros were shot and needed to be replaced along with a 2nd gear rebuild. It was all done under warranty but I didn't get a new tranny I got a new 2nd gear.
This is just my experience, but take it for what it's worth. This was a about a 75% power shift (just a little lift in order to not over-rev while shifting and using the clutch).

I'm alot easier on my '04 now.
Just ask Rodney (Crashed94), the trans expert.. He will tell you the synchros and blocking rings only have "so many" speed-shifts in them.
So if you have deep pockets, and the ability to "pay to play", then go for it.. Us less well-to-do types will continue along the cautious path..

I have heard theis many times as well - Aslo - it really does not make you that much faster, not to mention, if you are shifting near the top of the rvs, you will bounce off the limter
