It isn't about "knowing how to drive a manual properly," or about "driving it like it's a vette." The CAGS thing is annoying because it prevents you from shifting how YOU want. Which is exactly the point of a manual transmission. I don't want to be forced to lug my engine along in fourth gear at 15 miles an hour, or accelerate past the threshold to coax the computer into letting me shift to second.
This is an essential mod in my book. I find CAGS to be distracting and even dangerous.
Well, I tried to install mine (from SouthernCarParts)....
But.. the "plug" end (which dummies into the transmission receptor)
will NOT fit.
Looking at the harness end which I disconnected,
(first.. it is purple and not white as the instructions read)...
it is quite a bit smaller than the white "dummy" connector provided.
And it has 3 holes in it... whereas the "dummy" connector only has 2 holes.
Clearly this will NOT fit into the transmission receptor.
Are there different models of this "Skip Shift Eliminator" ?
Update: DUH !!!!!!!
Put it in the Upper connector... not the Lower one..... (Dumb me).
It fits just fine.

Reason: Stupid Me
1) Do you need to get under the car at all or is this a no brainer?
You dont need "Jacks" per se... do what I'm going to do, I'm using my son's local DayCare (or any other office building) with a handicap access sidewalk off their driveway. Back the car's back left wheel up over the driveway onto the natural handicap ramp until its up another 4-6"... install, then drive back forward when done.
Guess I just drive too fast... light never comes on for me... but then again I drive like I stole the thing!
Same here, never saw the light, nor had a problem shifting.
Do people actually buy a high performance sports car,to shift it at a 1000 or less RPM, or whatever it takes to turn on the light, and make you skip shift?
so my car shows the 1-4 light sometiems but GAGS is not kicking in, makes me think someone allready did this mod. Looked int he fuse box under the hood for a LED fuse but did not see one.
If the shift light comes on, you can always shift into third. It doesn't block any other gear except second. Most of the time I'm shifting into third anyway at low throttle. I was going to go the eliminator route but decided to try the factory system. After over 4,000 miles I have come to terms with shift light and I have decided not to modify the system. It actually saves gas and doesn't hurt performance.
I don't own a Corvette but I'm getting the Pontiac GXP with the manual transmission (T6060). I ordered the ship shift eliminator. I can't think of any reason why it shouldn't work with the GXP. Anyone more knowledgeable than me know of any potential issues?
Thanks.

I installed a CAGS eliminator that i ordered from Corvette Mods into the #10 fuse holder under the hood. This thing just replaces the fuse and does let you shift from 1st to 2nd even though the light comes on. is there something wrong I should know about this thing? Noone seems to even bring this option up.

It goes into the #10 fuse holder? What is it a LED fuse that is blown?

We have those also.....No real advantages or disadvantages to either style other than they type that plugs into the tranny can be used on both the C5 and C6 while the fuse style can only be used on the C6..
1. Disconnect your Corvette's negative battery cable from the battery. The stock cable color is black, but you should check the markings on the battery to be certain.
2. To gain access to the CAGS solenoid, raise your Corvette as directed by the GM Shop/Owners Manual. Be sure to follow all safety precautions and use jack stands to support the vehicle.
3. The CAGS solenoid is located on the drivers' side of the transmission towards the top and rear of the transmission. The wiring harness connector is white and blue in color.
4. Gently lift the locking clip and unplug the connector from the solenoid. Make sure the connector and solenoid are clean. Plug the black end of the CAGS Eliminator into the wiring harness. You should hear a snap/click sound when the wiring harness is completely seated. Plug the white end of the CAGS Eliminator into the CAGS solenoid. You should hear a snap/click sound when the connector is completely seated.
5. Lower Corvette according to GM Shop Manual procedures.
6. Re-connect negative battery cable and test-drive car.
I have them in stock and ready to ship if you want one.
Jim
All that in 5 minutes? You are a better man than me
Can't you disable the 1-4 skip shift feature by Removin the #10 fuse which
is the fuse that powers the solenoid for the skip shift feature? ... I haven't tried it, but it just seems logical...
Peace!
Yes and no. but you need to look at this post. This is another alternative which I chose to use. It involves the #10 fuse. It works great. The 1>4 light will still come on, but it will shift into second and not throw any codes.
