Too overcomplicated, will never buy another car with it. Just praying the new Camaro has a good old non-passive FOB and key start.
Why?
I like to know when my car is locked or unlocked, and only change when I push a button to do so.
I like my electrical system to shut down reliably everytime, don't like dead batteries.
I like family members to be able to drive the car without lengthy explanations, and then they screw something up anyway and it's call a tow truck for another jump start.
Had numerous performance cars - F bodys and Vettes all with a good old Fob and key, never had a problem or a dead battery. Get one of these new fangled high tech crap systems and how many dead batteries, lockouts, why is the horning beeping... wifee can't figure out how to get into the car, button falls in the dash... I'm done with keyless.
Bring back the non-passive FOB and Key start and I'll consider buying another GM performance car.
My guess is that a manual will just freeze up since the engine is down and will essentially slide the car?
Thanks.

I have passive locking on, so when I leave the car so it locks itself. However there's no confirmation beep, so I find myself fumbling for the FOB anyway to make sure she's locked up tight.
you can program it to flash the lights for confirmation.

I have a manual. The engine shutting off happened so fast, I don't really recall if I pushed in the clutch pedal of not, but the engine started right up when I pushed the Start button. I didn't know I could break out in a sweat so fast!

Are you all afraid of programing the clocks on your VCRs too?
Is it really that hard to push a button and then not mess with stuff? I don't know how anyone could hit the button when messing with the DIC unless your hand is the size of a dinner plate.
You don't have to keep the real key on the fob, so it's not difficult to carry the very small fob around.
How do you not know if your door is locked? It has the option of honking that obnoxious horn every time it locks. Do you think the car is pretending to lock itself when it does that, or flashes the lights?
I'm sorry, I just don't understand how so many people can worry so much about nothing. It's a friggin' button that starts your car, not the end of the world. Plus, have you seen regular GM keys? You really want one of those to carry around? Tossing someone the keys to a C5 and for all they know you could be driving an Astro!
I love it and would order it again in a heartbeat.
It's also really nice that you don't have to hold the start button in to start the car. Just push and release the button and the car will crank until the engine fires up.
Oh yeah, done right it's great. And that's what all those raving about it love - a simple system working perfectly. Sure it's great.
But that's not why I found after numerous dead batteries, tows, repairs, friends and family calls can't figure something out, fob got left in someone's pocket while the car was running and they left...
When all the previous cars were perfect, and the one with keyless start and passive entry has been a disaster, I'm thinking I'm leaning toward not liking it. Just my opinion from one who likes to keep it simple. Sure, I'd love it if it were bulletproof and consumer friendly. Check the battery warranty data, and tow bills - not the case today.
Were the dead batteries attributed to the keyless entry system? All new technology goes through growing pains until (hopefully) most of the bugs are worked out.
Even the old key technology is not bulletproof. Keyes get locked in the car with the motor running, bent keys, broken keyes, dirty locks, frozen locks etc.
Unfortunately, since nothing is bulletproof you might as well enjoy the system that gives you the most convenience and efficiency.
