I have owned many vehicles however I have never thought a Corvette owner as the type of person who wants to impress someone by looking wealthy. I believe a brand new Cadillac or a new motorhome would tend to reflect that image. A person can drive through may trailor courts and see $40,000 trucks and boats etc parked outside. I just do not see where a C-6 Corvette reflects extreme wealth. There are many many vehicles on the streets that cost just as much or more money than a C-6. The people that are jealous are the drivers that get just as close to your rear bumper as they can. Now that is annoying. I just like the Corvette for what it is!
Well, thats true about the cost of other vehicles...but where the Corvette is different is that its not practical, and for most people its at least their third car that just sits in the garage waiting for sunny days. Thats where people think you are rich to own one, just making payments to have a car sit in the garage. At least a 60K Surburban or Duramax pickup is generally used everyday, and can justify the cost.
Hell, I DD my Vette, but I'm just telling you what I've seen talking to people from the outside looking in.
I just finished reading every post in this thread and now I feel compelled to reply. Some of what I am going to say has already been said by others. I live in a very small town in Kentucky and as far as I know I own the only C6 in my county. I know of a C5 owner and I think these are the only Corvettes in the county. My county is a fairly poor county and the streets are filled with pickup trucks and SUVs. I have owned a business in my town for 34 years now and I am 55 years old. I purchased my 2005 C6 a little over 2 years ago. It is a Velocity Yellow vert and it really stands out. I had a tough time deciding whether to buy the car or not. I was at first worried that people in my town would think that I was flaunting my money. But the fact is, I do not have that much money. My business has been relative successful but I went through a divorce 22 years ago and had two small children to raise. My daughter is now a school teacher and my son is working on his doctorate degree. My second wife was a school teacher and we never made a 6 figure income. I am also not worth anything like 7 figures.
In June 1999, I suffered a massive heart attack and almost did not survive. I had another heart attack in 2001. I have been diagnosed with spinal stenosis and I have had 3 spine surgeries in the past few years and will probably end up in a wheel chair if I live many more years. I decided I was going to find a way to buy my life-long dream car and to hell with what anyone else thought. It was the best decision I ever made. I have enjoyed that car more in the last 2 years than anything I ever owned. And guess what! As far as I know, it has not affected my business or my personal life in any way. I am still the same guy that I was the day before I purchased my Corvette!!! Every time I drive my car through town, every head turns and looks. Almost everyone I know still likes to ask me about the car.
So, after saying all of this, I tend to agree with most of the other posters in this thread. It is more about the person than the car. Plus, the most important fact "WHO CARES". I learned in 1999 that life is very short and you can be here one minute and gone the next!!! KEEP DRIVING, KEEP SMILING, AND KEEP WAVING!!!!!!
I'm new to the corvette community, I've owned my C6 for a few months now, love the car immensely. The quesiton I have, why is it that the general public tend to hate or envy someone driving a corvette. I'm sure there's some psychological reason/s behind it.......but I just don't understand it. Sure I make in excess of six figures, have a networth of perhaps 7 figures, but I've worked hard for what I've achieved..........why all haters......please feel free to counsel me............

I'm not a six figure income guy net worth near zero. I choose what I buy carefully vett holds resale value. I also have people give me this same attitude. I'm 64 and feel I worked hard to get what I have. My wife and I drive 08 coupes not paid for.

My best guess is that some Corvette owners are low class blow hards and give the rest of us a bad rap. Look around plenty of them in this forum. However plenty of nice ones also exist.

I'm feeling better already. Thanks. My self-esteem is starting to return. Why don't you give me your address so I can come by and throw wadded up dollar bills in front of your house? That is, if I can get past the guard gate - Woodinville's pretty nice. Kind of like Plateaupia (Sammamish) but without the view.
BTW, my daughter and her husband recently bought a house in Lynnwood (local suburb not too far from you). Then they bought an SUV. It's obvious she has rejected her father's values so I think I'll recover from this.
I'd say it is probably mostly jealousy. I know people who think most vette drivers or drivers of any nice (expensive) cars are generally people to old to enjoy them.
I'd say just ignore the haters and enjoy your car.

Glad to help. BTW, if you want to get by the guard gate, give me a few weeks to build it...we don't have guard gates here, but I know a few spots that do. Any rate, wadded up dollar bills (or even $20 bills) are always welcome. They'd help with the purchase of a new Vette.
If you'd like to stop by on your way to your daughter's house, we'd like to see what you'd change if you could order a new one and any suggestions for someone returning to the fold after a real long time. I'm thinking of placing an order in December or January for a Museum delivery.
