If I bought a ford taurus becuase I wanted to be like my clients or a BMW/lexus to be like others in my profession than that would have been fake and people can tell.

If you are honest, treat everybody according to the golden rule, live your life in balance, and Give more than you take, than everbody for the most part will treat you nice and with respect.

Let me ask, what have you done to change people's perceptions?

When in the vette I always make it a point to smile, wave, answere kids questions, let them sit in the car, give folks the right of way, and let tractor trailers into my lane.

Of course I do this in all my other vehicles also

Being a mortgage broker I have seen both sides of the ladder. (frequently and lately) The Soldier is correct on how many people see us. I dress in gym cloths most of the time and if I had a millions in the bank, you would never be able to tell. Do you know the # 1 vehicle Millionaires drive? The Ford Explorer. People I know with a LOT of money hide it well.

There is a great book called "The Millionaire Next Door" that discusses this very issue.

In the time frame I grew up in the successful person was looked up to in the community. Today it is corporations are evil and people with money took it away from someone else and are looked down on by this new socialist culture.

Im poor, relatively speaking. Make WAY less than six figures. Have loved cars since I was in 4th grade and had my mom subscribe to Hot Rod.

I have had such crummy lows in life, it would make a grown man cry.

I dug out of the hole with excessive hard work and integrity (things I lacked earlier in life). I'm 52 and getting old! And..... I work and aim to maybe make $100k at least once in my life! Me? I look UP to successful people! Most are same as you or I!

I had a Lightning and traded up for a Vette. Such a great car! I love my car and have 27k miles in 9 months! Now, I am pining for a Z06. Maybe I can get one!

Others probably DO buy cars for how they look in them. Me, I like to use these cars as a barometer on how well I am doing (in my own head). I started my own business. One reason was to be able to drive a lot. I LIKE driving. Now, I get to drive a CORVETTE quite a bit!

Its an amazing car. People here on the 'bottom' love a Vette. I have had the most amazing comments from all sorts of people. All I can feel is the LOVE from my ownership experience.

In fact, I have had people PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD to let me pass on twisty hilly roads so I could ENJOY my car.

Where would one find a hater? For a Corvette driver/owner? I have NOT experienced such a thing!

You buy these cars not because you love her history, not because you love american muscle, but because its a status symbol and it signifys wealth. You probably also have a hummer and something made in Germany. Your watch costs more than my first car. Your attitude sucks and everyday people want to step on your pompous neck.

I am making rash broad sweeping statements here, some of which may or may not apply to you. The mes and yous were not meant to attack you personally, but you get the idea.

On a personal note, I feel sorry for the guys that flaunt these cars and their money. They are missing out on the pure love of motorsports. You can't understand what it means to dump everything you have into a materialistic piece of composite just to be able to wake up and hear that cam popping off in the morning. I don't hate those folks at all. Wouldn't trade my life for theirs ever.

Perhaps those haters just got you pegged, rightly or wrongly, for one of dem guys with money and no car love.
I get it! And It wasn't directed at the OP it is the answer he was seeking. It is an attitude perceived by many non Vette owners. It is up to us to change this attitude. A wave, smile and say hello when someone looks at your car instead of having that "I'm better than you" look.

Now excuse me while I go polish my gold chain and trim some chest hairs!

P.S. I too was a soldier. You are a winner in my book just for volunteering your service to our country. You can go as far up "the ladder" as you want in the military. All it takes is a lot of hard work and dedication to duty. It's not a $$ thing! Good luck to you!

I disagree about the haters. The only negative comment I have received was from a guy who got off a county bus and told me how much less it cost him to ride the bus than it cost me to drive a Corvette. I told him he was right, but who has more fun?

The people who know me are so happy for me. I have received more compliments than I can remember. I seem to receive a lot of compliments from children. I even had a police officer pull up next to me at a light, lower his window and tell me what a beautiful car I have.

I have participated in Corvette cruises and shows.

I don't sense the anger or envy.

This continues to come up on this forum and leads me to believe some of you have a real problem with owning a Corvette. I can sort of appreciate that since both my wife and daughter berated me for selling the Porsche and buying a C6. There is, to be sure, an image of Corvettes still harbored by some people who really don't matter.

If this really bothers you - and it sounds like it does - I'd go visit your local Porsche or Ferrari dealer. It seems to me that image is more important to you than the little things like, oh, performance, value, tradition, serviceability, racing, autocrossing, road trips....

I can't argue with your perception that to some people, Corvettes still evoke a negative response. Live with it. I get far more compliments on my C6 than criticism. Well, okay, my daughter still hasn't completely forgiven me.

In this world there will always be haters and those that are jealous...but was there any reason to mention that he makes six figures or has a net worth of over 7 figures........I enjoy the vette.....and have always wanted one since I was seven and saw one drivin down the road in 1979. I worked hard to get where I'm at these days andfeel blessed to be able to achieve my dream.....just my 0.02....

My corvette makes me feel more powerful and important than others who can not afford expensive things. Sometimes I like to drive through low income neighborhoods and toss wadded up dollar bills at poor people.

I do the same thing, except I don't go into poor neighborhoods for fear of being shot - instead, I do it at bus stops. Only poor people take the bus, so it works out quite well for my ego.

For the most part, this board is filled with Corvette enthusiasts who don't care about anything but making their car faster/better looking. But in real life, most Corvette owners have no clue about CorvetteForum, and are in it for the status/money/ego etc. This is especially true for the C6 cars...just one guys opinion, take it for what its worth.

I have owned many vehicles however I have never thought a Corvette owner as the type of person who wants to impress someone by looking wealthy. I believe a brand new Cadillac or a new motorhome would tend to reflect that image. A person can drive through may trailor courts and see $40,000 trucks and boats etc parked outside. I just do not see where a C-6 Corvette reflects extreme wealth. There are many many vehicles on the streets that cost just as much or more money than a C-6. The people that are jealous are the drivers that get just as close to your rear bumper as they can. Now that is annoying. I just like the Corvette for what it is!
