I'm a soldier, Mustang-low buck hotrod guy who loves car to death. I build everything I drive. The reason people like me hate people like you is because you feel driven to tell us, in your every action, behavior and statement that you are worth 7 figures. You buy these cars not because you love her history, not because you love american muscle, but because its a status symbol and it signifys wealth. You probably also have a hummer and something made in Germany. Your watch costs more than my first car. Your attitude sucks and everyday people want to step on your pompous neck.
I am making rash broad sweeping statements here, some of which may or may not apply to you. The mes and yous were not meant to attack you personally, but you get the idea.
On a personal note, I feel sorry for the guys that flaunt these cars and their money. They are missing out on the pure love of motorsports. You can't understand what it means to dump everything you have into a materialistic piece of composite just to be able to wake up and hear that cam popping off in the morning. I don't hate those folks at all. Wouldn't trade my life for theirs ever.
Perhaps those haters just got you pegged, rightly or wrongly, for one of dem guys with money and no car love.

Chill out!! Its called class envy and it has become a norm in this country. If you are successful you are taxed to death and are considered evil. If that is true, why to middle class people play the lottery?? Then they will be evil too!!
I'm new to the corvette community, I've owned my C6 for a few months now, love the car immensely. The quesiton I have, why is it that the general public tend to hate or envy someone driving a corvette. I'm sure there's some psychological reason/s behind it.......but I just don't understand it. Sure I make in excess of six figures, have a networth of perhaps 7 figures, but I've worked hard for what I've achieved..........why all haters......please feel free to counsel me............

Class envy has been the primary tool of one of the political parties for forty years....among other devices to obscure discussion of real issues. This class envy translates itself into behavior in a number of ways including regarding cars. Most people would not know a truly expensive car if they saw one. They think vettes are expensive. NOT.
Fifty, Sixty, even Seventy thousand for a car today is not that big a deal when you consider top line beemers, p cars, suvs, lexus, benz etc.
Vettes are flashy so are mistaken for cars owned by the truly wealthy. Now, I am sure many people who have real wealth own vettes but I doubt it's as common as owners who barely scrape by to make the payments.
The image of the Corvette, as a snapshot in time, taken say in 1969 would not, IMO, have resulted in the hate/envy we see today. More like respect. I think the period from the mid 70s to the mid 80s hurt the image of vette owners immensely. The cars were ,IMO , just plain poor ,big, slow, and gaudy. This was when, IMO, the "gold chain middle aged male owner " stereotype was born. I think the C5 and C6 and especially the Z06 have started to undo this image damage.
In a bucket of crabs, if one tries to climb out to freedom, the others will pull it back down. That's the mentality behind folks not liking people who are successful.
Climbing "up" is a lot like being in a tree full of monkeys, unless you're at the top of the tree, when you look up to go higher, all you see are A - HOLES!

Thanks for your service. I appreciate it. If you ever get close to South Carolina email me and come drive my Katech C6Z. It is not for the faint of heart and I could care less what people think about me or my Corvette. I think you will like it.
Anyone that buys a Corvette-It's about the money. Best Bang for the buck. Fastest car for the Dollar..etc. If we were worth 7 figures I'd have a C6Z06 for the high speed track,A Lotus Espirt for AutoCross, a Ferrari for when I felt snobbish and a Lambo when I want a F'N sportcar thrill.
Quite a few people which is what makes this so amusing. I'm just burning time at work. I'm a purty cool guy I promise.
Why can't we all just get along? Keep looking over your shoulder! You may get fired for just burning time at work. Thanks for your service! Enjoy your car! This thread should be locked!
Many of us on the forum are worth 7 figures. You would be surprised. But I am buying a corvette because it is an American icon. And it is the least pretentious high performance sports car on the market. Most of my friends aspire to buy a 7 series BMW, a Mercedes amg 65, or SLK, or a 911 turbo. I have friends that drive Bentleys and Ferraris. Most of us are not impressed with how much some one is worth. I have friends that are worth hundreds of millions that drive pickup trucks. I would rather have a friend who is sincere and fun, and truly passionate about there hobby or car. Someone that is worth talking to. Money can't buy that! Having said that, one thing I have noticed is that those that do throw their income around usually are insecure. They are always trying to garnish aproval for a life frought with insecurity, abandonement and lack of support by parents and piers while growing up. Sometimes that never ending insecurity is a major driving force for ones success. It drives and motivates people in unusual ways. But in the end the victory is bitter sweet as your own success leads those you try to impress to only despise you that much more. That leads to threads like this one. Don't be too hard on the OP. He really just needs a hug! And don't forget, he bought a corvette, not a pretentious car. He can't be all that bad. As far as people hating vettes or vette owners, I just don't see it.
It's amazing just how quickly someone talking about money leads to class warfare and envy. That, I have never understood. Its Ok to talk about how little you have, but the minute you have the success that we all so desperately crave and aspire towards, then you are an A-hole.
