Default ya what the heck

Photo, I agree I posted questions about a new shifter **** a few mins ago. I am thinking about putting down a hundred bucks on a darn shifter ****! Not anyting the will make the car run better, shift better, or hell look better, just because. And go figure I ponder a new pair of pants that cost 50! What the heck is up with that? I think its a pride of owner ship thing. I have several cars and all of them are dirty but the darn Vette! lol So I am with ya what is up with that?

It's kinda like the commercial: When I turn it on it returns the favor.

A good friend (Harley Rider) summed it up pretty good, when I asked him why Harley and not the others. "It has soul, and speaks with passion".

I remember an ad from Motor Trend magazine in 1974 . . .

At the top of the page, it said: "If you've wanted a Corvette since you were a kid . . . . "

The car was pictured in the middle. And at the bottom, just above the bow tie emblem was written:

"Then you've waited long enough!"

That's all it took for me.

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that it's a car that many would love to own but only a relatively few actually can. It'd be tough to argue the car's desirebility - it's got looks, power, handling, heritage, you name it. Anyone who enjoys driving would love to have one. Factor in the car's relative lack of practicality (2 seats), price (yeah, it's huge bang for the buck but $50K isn't exactly chump change), and you have a great car that most people simply can't own.

Amen to that. I have been a car nut for nearly 50 years, I can't explain it, I just am. The Corvette exemplifies everythng I want in a car, handling, straight line acceleration, image, cool looks, cool looks from those looking at it and much more that I find hard to put to words.

To me its my hobby. I love modding and going to carshows. Think its cool, when the little kid is looking out the window giving you a thumbs up! I wish I was a "stock" fan, have alot more money! I like the wow factor, not being just another red corvette.

I was (and still am) a Jaguar nut. Have owned an Etype for 20 years. On the 2nd wife, who was a Vette nut from her teens and got me hooked. It's the total package. When I get in either car it just feels right. A pleasure to drive and I feel like I ought to be out looking for a Ferrari to embarass big time. Still in the Jaguar I feel like I ought to be wearing a tweed jacket and golf cap with a polishing cloth in the pocket. In the Vette I feel like I should be wearing a helmet and fire suit......What ***** it has.

Well put. I would find it hard myself to obsess over a Hyundai Sonata or Buick Regal.

The other cars are a necessity - DD's used to haul groceries and get to work. The Corvette is a luxury, a toy, or as the insurance company calls it "a pleasure vehicle".

Two things - one is that it's a very special car for the "masses". When you consider that it's no more expensive than the gazillion Tahoes and Suburbans you see everywhere (and all those Diesel F250s), it becomes an exotic that that many people can afford.

But the obsession has less to do with the actual car, and more to do with what it represents to it's owner. It's like being on vacation everytime we get in it to run to the convenient store.

She is different. she turns me on to no end. I think about her all the time. she is smooth as silk. she is sexy. We're still madly in love. and what a rear.

Oh, and the same goes for my woman too.

For me just thinking why is like remembering the first time. What made it special, was it the little things, maybe the feel. Specifically, for me the power of rocket, driven by a crazy guy, and that up and down radio. It took a while from 1969 til I got mine in 1996. Once your bit you can't go back.

Thanks to Rich something or other who worked for my dad. He gave me the disease and thank goodness there is no cure!

Too bad he wrecked that car two months later.

How did this all come about??

I sometimes treat mine better than my wife and children!! That is insane, but to us who are "infected" with the vette virus, it makes sense.

I think we all need counceling.
Glad I got that off my chest. I feel better now!
I agree here 100%, as a matter of fact the wife and kids think just that, ' The Vette is more important than them'. That is no way true.

We as Vette owners, as we all know put alot of pride and time into our cars and want them right or as perfect as we can get them in our eyes . That doesn't mean we love our family any less, it's just we have an item other than a family member that we put pride in. It's something we've longed for and finelly got it.

When you put it in prospective with daughters, they want the best cell ph, clothes, jewelery and when you do the same with boys it's their Play Station 3, X-box 360 and so on, and as far as wives are concerned they look at it as imature or mid-life crisses. ( or in my case, she just says, 'you have too much time on your hands'. )

If you think about it when kids are on the phone or playing a game they tell us to be quiet, get out, not now, or just ignore us. Isin't that true ? They need to remember that next time dad is with his toy.

That is what I do with my children and they somewhat understand, or say 'whatever'. I think maybe its a parent that has spent X amount of time with their kids through the years, then all of a sudden a Vette comes along and Dads time is with the car so they feel left out.

Okay you can try to include them as I've tried in the past and they have gotten bord and pretty much walked away. I guess you can't win for loosing.

Okay, now I'm babbling and sounding like Dr. Spock. I don't mean to just speaking from experence.

I don't think things will ever change we as Vette owners will always obsess about our cars and that's just the way of life...............

But when it's our family time, or it's time to take care of our family, the Vette is on the back burner. ( Covered up safe and sound.... In the garage )
