weight, and traction.

The LS3 makes more power, but with the addition of the larger transmission etc the car also weighs more than it's LS2 counterpart.

That starts to even things out.

Also the LS3 does have more power, and makes a bit more a bit lower in the RPM range than the LS3. Traction might be an issue here.

The truest test isn't going to be with ET's but with the trap speed.

Reminds me of this thread about the "unfair" rwhp advantage of the LS3:

36 hp is only good for 0.1 - 0.2 sec in the quarter mile improvement, and the driver can affect more than that.

Not true. Have the 07 and 08 brochure in front of me. The General lists the weight of the cars (Coupe):
07: 3243 lbs.
08: 3217 lbs.

My 2008 2LT coupe, 6sp. manual, Z51 & NPP had a shipping wt. of 3198. How much heavier can an 08 coupe be than an 07 coupe?

I currently have a 08 C6 and man it feels much faster than my 12.08 sec 1998 TA. The LS3 is a beefy engine and I am sure the LS2 is stout.

At this point, the stock LS3 has not demonstrated its dominance over the LS2.

Surely there must be some other guys with 2008 C6’s that are willing to take the garage queen to the drag strip. What happened with the LS3...where’s the beef?

I’ll go on record as saying I would expect the LS3 to be slightly faster than the LS2. I think the showroom stock 1/4 mile times show just how close these engines are in performance (and how very few 2008 C6 owners are up to running their car at the drag strip). I hope we see more stock 2008 C6 owners run their cars at the drag strip and post their time slips. I hear the LS3 is faster than the LS2...show me!
Wayne,

I have been a fan of your C6 enthusiasm since frst joining the forum about 2 years ago. I would love to have a 500 RWHP car. That being said, I watched a supercharged C5 leave the tranny on the track at a local charity drag event a week ago. So a performance bump for the stock car via easy intake and exhaust mods not threatening said warranty is viewed by many (myself included) as a good thing. I am not a pro, so I stick with basic techniques. Leaving my LS3 A6 in drive, with traction on, revving to 1500 RPM against the brake, I had a best time of 12.344 @ 115.6MPH. The best that I got with my LS2 A6 was 13.08. I had the same Corsa sports (literally, I swapped them from one to the other) on both cars, but I did add the Vette Air Killer Bee on the LS3.

And when driving the car in more than a straight line, the steering feel is improved, and the response time to the paddles on the A6 is definitely improved.

So everybody has a favorite. I like the car with the warranty. If they add another .5 second improvement with factory warranty, I am ready to upgrade again.

Karl

I think you will see the LS3 shine after the bolt-ons and tune. On the list barely a year into production it has 7 of the top 10 on the bolt-on category.

External Engine Modifications (Bolt-Ons)
10.92 @ 123.63 - Dennis50NJ - 05 Z51 A4 - CAI, CB, conv, hdrs, 3.73, tune, DR - (2540)
11.44 @ 119.11 - Theofel - 08 A6 - CAI, CB, conv, hdrs, 315, tune, DR - (2108)
11.47 @ 121.93 - Jbsblownc5 - 08 M6 Z51 - CAI, CB, Hdrs, ported int, 3.73, tune DR - (2504)
11.56 @ 120.02 - Quicktime - 08 M6 - CAI, CB, Hdrs, ported int/tb, tune DR - (2409)
11.56 @ 118.82 - MCV - 08 Z51 M6 - CAI, DR - (1852)
11.70 @ 118.54 - Z51 6spd - 08 Z51 A6 Npp - El wp, hdrs, tune - (2175)

11.76 @ 119.00 - NastyC6 - 05 Z51 A4 - CAI, conv, hdrs, 3.73, ported int/tb, tune
11.77 @ 121.58 - Red06vette - 06 Z51 A6 - CAI, CB, hdrs, ported int/tb, tune - (2179)
11.77 @ 121.41 - XStang - 08 A5 Z51 - CAI, Tune - (2522)

Who has been on a test track and run an LS2 vs an LS3 from a roll? Taking the driver out of the equation, I would have to think that the LS3 runs stronger. Any experiences at the track?

There were several threads earlier that showed GM listed the weight of the 08 as being heavier than the 07, but I'm not gonna search.

The SCCA and NASA already has heavy penalties for the LS3 Corvettes for roadracing, it'll be interesting to see how the LS3 fairs with the 2008 rules.
