Drive both and get which one you like better, unless of course you are bothered by the fact the some people you have been talking to say that you would have no class then ( get that from a Porsche forum?) I'm on my 4th vette, so I must have ZERO class. Right.
By the way, there is a reason that on the Sopranos when a kid was taking about how fast his dad's Boxter was, Paulie laughs and calls it a Porsche with panties.
GET WHICH ONE YOU LIKE BETTER!!!

A Boxster is a Porsche like a Saturn Sky is a C6. That is to say, not so much. It's a fun car, no doubt, but not in the C6's class. I have a friend who bought a Boxster for his wife, and she loves it. He enjoys driving it once in a while, too - but he bought himself a C6.
Both are great cars...it will be a personal choice.. The reality is...most new cars are very reliable...there are very few cars produced today that are not of good quality....
If you want a great car that people will talk to you about and wave to you in, get the C6. If you love the sound of an American V8, get the C6. If you want a fun car, either is probably pretty good.

If you get a Boxter everyone will say "look at that guy, he really wanted a 911 but couldn't afford one" but if you get a C6 everyone will know you're a smart man!
Lol, you know whats funny? I've actually had two people look at my c6 and say "No z06?"... and i tell them if they want to generously donate 30 grand to my z06 fund, ill make it a z06.
If you want to hear that you should buy a Porsche Boxster go to a Porsche forum..
If you want to hear you should buy a Corvette then come here.
It's like asking a vegetarian if you should order a hamburger or a hot dog.
If you worry so much about what people think then you should buy what they tell you to buy with "your" money.
I wonder how many of the folks here that say the Boxster is a "girlie" car or not a "real" Porsche have actually driven one? As the former owner of a 2000 Boxster S (traded in on a Caymen S) I have to say it was more fun to drive than my Z06. The Porsche is way more nimble with better steering and brake feel than the Z06 which I think translates to a better road car. The Corvette (any model) will crush the Porsche in acceleration. I really disliked people's stupid comments about the Z06 ("are you buying a gold chain and tupee too?" etc) and don't like seeing these stupid comments about the Boxster either. The Vette and the Porsche are both great cars, but are very different in how they drive. Test drive them both and pick the one you like best, you can't lose.
Anyone who would buy a car based on Consumer Reports BS ratings and recommendations about coolness from their friends really, REALLY needs to get the Boxster.
one of my best friends from high school bought a boxster and kept on telling me how great it was i told him to come try the c6 the boxster' like a toy by comparison. he came over drove it looked at me and said now i see what you mean.
I gave up on Consumer Reports years ago. My wife wanted (and got) a Mustang GT; CR said about it, down their noses, "...useless back seat, but we suppose people don't buy cars like this for their back seats."
The boxter is a nice car and the new revision of it looks more like a real Porsche then ever. BUT it still on the girly side as far as cars go much like my wife's BMW Z4. Its a nice car, looks nice but I feel somewhat more feminine driving it. The Boxter also reminds me of a poor man's 911. If any "Cheaper" Porsche model to consider it would be the Caymen. But neither are gonna give you performance thrill of the C6.
The fun part of a Boxster is that to do almost anything on the engine, it needs to be removed from the car. This is very easy and inexpensive at a Porsche dealer!
The comment that a Boxster isn't a "real" Porsche generally comes from 911 owners (who look down at anything less than a 911). I've never had any desire to own one but I recognize Porsche builds a fine car. I respect they way they handle.
I wouldn't be too concerned with what Consumer Reports says nor would I worry about what your friends say. The best advice is to drive both cars yourself and decide which one does it for you.
FWIW my 2005 C6 has been extremely reliable and trouble-free. It's been a great car in all respects.

Only smart people drive what they like not what people think of them.
I owned a Porsche Boxster S (extra car - shared with my wife) a few years ago and now I own a C6 (extra car also shared with my wife). The Boxster was fun to drive, great balance and handled like it was on "rails". It did lack the power and torque of the C6. The two cars are very different. The Porsche tiptronic transmission is outstanding and I wish the C6 A6 had a similar performing auto transmission. My wife drove the Boxster 90% of the time, now I drive the C6 80% of the time.
IMO - They are both very nice cars, but buy what you really like to drive not what some magazine tells to buy. I would test drive both of them to help make your decision. Also, do some research in Car and Driver, Road & Track and Motor Trend. BTW - I'm very happy with my 2006 C6.
