Why is the stereo so bad?

Why is the stereo so bad?
My new Z06 sounds just as bad as my 2005. I pretty much quit listening to music in the car because the nav system stereo just really sucks.
So is this my imagination? Does anyone have a good recommendation for a way to punch up the sound?

I don't know if its your system or "My Age" but I have the 6CD Bose.. and to "my" ancient ears it sounds fine, but you have to remember I'm listening to "Oldies" like CBS FM or "Oldie CD's"
I never listen to the latest & greatest (i.e. 50 cent., or Boyz In The Hood, Etc...) so my opinion my not be fair...
I know Rush Limbaugh sounds ok

Its your imagination...I like mine and every passenger comments on how nice it is also. Then they usually say to turn off the stereo so they can listen to the engine!

Melting Slicks
start by disconnecting the center speaker. then think about replacing the door small speakers. next is some sound deadening behind the seats and in the doors.

It is because your ears are too good. If you had ears like mine, the stereo would sound great

My wife says that she would rather listen to the engine than the radio because the radio is so bad.
All that loud music in the 70's have made it so I can't tell if the sound is good or not.

I'm not an audiophile (and I couldn't bring myself to say my "ancient" ears) but my 6-CD Bose changer sounds good enough for my purposes. Besides, my real sound system is under the hood.
BTW, concerning the latest & greatest....I'm pretty sure my kids would say performers like 50 Cent and Boyz in the Hood are passé.

change stations or add 3000 watts of power so everyone else in a 5 block area can enjoy your chose of music...... my base stereo sounds good to me....IMHO

Bose is the biggest overrated piece of crap stereo system ever invented and marketed. This goes for home, car, etc. Bose is a "marketing company" telling everyone that it is so great. Similar to how Anheuser Busch is a marketing company telling us they have great beer. They have lousy beer. I am not even sure I would consider any of their foaming slop beer. (Sorry, off the topic)...
You want a good system, go to a reputable "one man" shop that has been around for a while and get some advice. Forget the box stores as they sell crap.

The problem with Bose (and why the have a bad reputation with audio enthusiasts) is they engineer their products to maximize performance for the "masses". 90% of people buying audio equipment couldn't tell the difference between a Dynaudio tweeter and a paper cone tweeter. But those same people would say that something with more bass and bright and loud highs, sounds "better" than a tonally flat system.
Bose knows their target market - and most people are pretty happy with their 901's/Acoustimass/Wave radios. Personally, I think Bose's sound is twoards the bottom of my list, but they definitely are more than a marketing company.
