Corvette Recall Forthcoming
GM has alerted dealers today of an upcoming safety recall for Corvette owners. Here are the details of what vehicles are involved and what you can expect.
The recall will include certain 2005-2007 Corvettes equipped with a removable roof and 2006-2007 Corvette Z06's. This includes some 22,000 Corvettes!
Some of these vehicles have a condition in which the adhesive between the roof panel and the frame may separate. If there is a partial separation, the occupant may notice one or more symptoms, such as a snapping noise when driving over bumps, wind noise, poor roof panel fit, roof panel movement/bounce when a door or hatch is closed, or a water leak in the headliner. If there is a complete separation, the roof panel may detach from the vehicle. If this were to occur while the vehicle was being driven, it could strike a following vehicle and cause injury and/or property damage.
To correct the problem, dealers will install a newly designed roof panel. Right now GM is waiting on suppliers to obtain the required parts and when a sufficent number has been obtained, customer notification will begin.
Dealers do not know which specific vehicles are involved, nor can they perform the recall before the recall has been officially launched.
As always, any safety recall is done free of charge for the customer. Stay tuned to CorvetteBlog for updated information when we have it.

All kidding aside, this recall is long overdue. The only thing that surprises me is that it wasn't mandated by NHTSA as soon as tops began flying off on freeways.

Chevy sent me as many as 7 notifications until I finally went in and had my roof fixed.
I ordered the dual top option and never have the solid top installed. So I never bothered. I just had the thing fixed so they would leave me alone..

You could have just clicked on his link and seen that the blog is dated 12/18/09, so this appears to be a new recall. Notice they're not saying their going to fix the roofs which is what they tried to do before, but rather replace them.

Again, based upon the date of the OP's link, this appears to be something new. Based upon prior knowledge, this is a known issue with a known fix. The only difference is they're saying they're going to replace the roofs, not try to fix them as they did in the prior recall.
The way I understand it, whether or not a particular car's roof was covered under the earlier recall was determined first by whether or not the VIN fell within the identified range, then by whether or not the roof panel for that specific VIN came from a batch of panels known to have had problems. In the case of this latest recall, I'm guessing that they're opening it up to more cars (maybe even all cars) within the affected VIN range since I know for a fact that there have been a number of cars that weren't included in the original recall whose roof panels have delaminated.
CF member Calemasters is very well-versed on this topic. Hopefully he'll chime in here and give us the scoop.
