That shouldn't be a big objection....new discs do not offer much other than more POIs, which are just advertising. Keep the ones that it came with. If you want to get new discs in a few years, get them off Ebay and pay much much less. Most here won't keep their Corvette long enough to need new discs anyway.
The postcard i recieved for the free update has expired, anyone have any luck getting the updated disk after the offer has expired?
Have a 07' and never gotten any updates still have Ver 4.
I know i procrastinated about it so i may be outta luck

By being diligent I was able to get version 6 free for my '07. The car came with version 3. I called late in 2008 for the first update and they sent 5.0 early in 2009. I called for the second update late in 2009 knowing, having read it here, that they were still shipping 5.0. I pointed out that I didn't want a second copy of the one they already sent and was told to call back after 6.0 was released. On 12/29 I called and they were still shipping 5.0 but I managed to get a very understanding rep who made a record that I had called before the deadline and the next update would be 6 whenever it was released. When 6 finally showed up I called that rep and he looked it up and sent me 6.
Most people only got 3 through 5 as free updates. I got lucky finding a rep who understood what customer support means. I think you are SOL. But, as mentioned above, there really isn't much useful new information every year. It will be many years before I buy a new one and then I will buy "used".

Yea i know i agree with you, im not even a fan really of this nav, it just dosn't need to be so user unfriendly, i do not use it very much thats just my lifestyle and i know that repeated use as some have stated in other posts it becomes easier to master.
With that said i have a TomTom unit from my employer in a company vehicle and it is a better view and a snap to setup.
Im not going to bother with calling them up and trying to get them for the free update I'll just leave it alone was just asking looking for a freebee
I just made a backup disc for my 2006. It had the original version 2 disc and I want to get an updated version, but at around $150and reading another post saying that you could and should make a backup disc, I tried and succeded. I have a friend who has a new ZR1 with nav, and so I am going to make him a backup set for his car and who knows, he migh not want them.
It's very easy, just takes a while to do.

Talon90,
I need some help here. I bought an 05 last week with the Nav. unit. I'm a complete nerd when it comes to understanding how these gizmos get and process data and how one component talks to another component (software/hardware). However, I can read and follow directions in a user's manual and that usually gets the results I anticipate. However my first experience using this system a couple of days ago left me puzzled and frustrated and it was not from the buttonology of the system but the results I got.
Part of the route I wanted to travel was familiar to me but most of the route was not. Within the first 10 miles of travel the little lady who lives in the dash and gives me directions had directed me to turn on three non exsistent roads and had plotted a course for me accross a few miles of open farm land on which there were no roads. Being familiar with this part of the route, I simply ignored her and continued on but I knew I couldn't trust her to lead me successfully through the unknown. So my wife fires up her iPhone, punches in our destination and it gives us a route to use as a cross reference with the Corvette system. These gadgets disagreed a few more times but we went with the phone and found our destination.
Now I realize that our nav. was an 05 v.1 and that infrastructure and roads change fairly frequently but these roads have gone unchanged for decades so I have my doubts about whether or not spending significant $ on a newer version disc would fix my problem. If it's not a software issue, then I have no idea why this system was so far off so many times in a 45mile drive. This brings me to my question: Would getting a more recent version nav.disc be LIKELY to correct this or is there something else that could be responsible for these errors? If I were depending on a system like this to fly with, I'd be in a world of doookey.
Thanks

Reason: context clarification
Does anyone know how much improvement this navigation disc has vs the original one for my 2005? Is it worth the $199.00 they are charging for it?
In addition to having (some of) the newer roads, discs from 2008 and later seem to give distinctly better directions. Not perfect, but better.
You can buy a 2008-2009-2010 edition pretty cheaply here or on the big auction site, but be sure it will work in a Corvette. No all GM discs are interchangable.
The discs for all types of cars, including our Toyotas, are always annoyingly out of date. I get a new one every three years.
I am considering upgrading the Nav data disc that came with my 2005 and have looked over this forum the auctions, and gmnavdisc. My question is what do you actually get when you order the new 2011 upgrade 20980238 for $199? Do you get both the East and West disc's?

Yes. Suggest waiting until February or March 2011. If you order too early, they'll take your money and send you the 2010 edition no matter what you actually ordered.
I just read this thread and looked at my DVD in my 2007 Corvette and it is version 1.10 GM p/n 15807780. Is this even the right DVD for my car? I found that the previous owner switched the homelink sun visor from the car for one without homelink before selling it so I'm thinking he might have also switched the nav DVD out on me too
Also, can someone give me some info on if I can still upgrade the nav DVD since I have a 2007 or if there is a way to check and see if the previous owner upgraded it. I found the GM Nav Disc Center so I can email them and ask but I thought I would ask here first.

I bought a 2007 and I'm the proud owner or versions 3, 4 and 5. I asked if they could stop sending them after the second one (version 4)came and they told me no. I wanted to wait a couple of years between them but the General would have none of it. Go figure.
Someone who takes the time to learn the system so they can use it.
Read Talon90's tutorial.
I've had the factory Nav in my 06 and 07 and it works, but you have to read the User's Manual.
It has taken me safely on 450+ mile trips from my home into unknown territory and gotten me within a couple hundred feet of my destination. I'm not launching ICBM missiles.
Last week I ordered the 2011 nav disc from the GM Nav Disc Center, got an email today that the disc has been shipped.
Normally, I update every 3 years (we have three cars with nav, so that means buy one disc per year). But my 2009 disc is missing a major stretch of Interstate that was added only five years ago
The 2011 disc is verified to have the new road.

Can you let us know if you get the 2011 or 2010 version. I just bought a 2007 vert and the disk in the DVD is dated 2005 so I thought I would order a new one but would like to get the latest. When I called the GM Nav Disc Center they were less then helpful as to when the 2011 version would actually be shipped.
