There is a learning curve to this navigation system for sure but after spending a little time with the tutorial from this forum I can now use it successfully! Two things I really like about it 1) is being able to see the upcoming curves ahead of time and 2) the directions displayed on the HUD, very cool! Only other drawback was I had version 3 (07) which was missing a lot of data at least in my area but I was recently trolling Ebay and found a brand new unopened version 5 (east and west disks) for 100.00 so I should be good for a while I hope!
I agree with you on your learning curve point. Once you learn the system it works PRETTY well. I also agree with those that have suggested that the system is oddly archaic for a car of this level.
Has the data that you reported as missing from earlier versions been updated?
Can you see if it has Old Oak Ct. in Citrus Heights, CA? My 2005 version has my street wrong. Just curious.
I've tried numerous times to copy my nav disks so I won't have to keep using the originals and if it gets damaged its only a copy. I've tried every tip and still no good. It would be nice would post exact instructions for us old farts who are not absolute computer geeks.

Haven't checked all of my streets in question but two that I have now actually show my car on a street! I will check yours tomorrow when I get ready to go for a cruise!
Yes, many but not all will. And even the earlier ones that said they do, do not necessarily. Most recently made burners will do DL discs. To copy the NAV disc, the best way is to use a program to make an ISO file out of the disc, then a burner to burn that ISO to a new disc. There is no copy protection on the NAV disc. I use DVD Decrypter to read and write the ISO file, not because anything needs decrypting, but just because it is a very good, lightweight burning tool.

This is what pulled up.

From: "No matter where you go... there you are"...."You cannot drive a dollar bill". ...and remember... "D
Yea the Nav system is kinda goofy....mine won"t even show me the location of my home... My Enclave does and so did my old Murano...go figure.....I guess they are OK if you are completely lost and don't have a clue where you are......something about that.... "you can't get there from here"..........LOL
The Corvette C6 has had a bit of a storied past with respect to the nav disc free update program. The original program was only available to 2006 and 2007 model year cars. For 206 and 2007 models the owner was entitled to receive two free updates on the first and second anniversary of their taking delivery of the car. This was so horribly miscommuncated that no one knew the details of the program and folks were expecting to be able to get updates years later after taking delivery. For the 2008 model year the program was stopped.
Model year / Nav disc status
2005 / Updated discs will work in the unit but are at the owners expense. Version 1, single disc navigation DVD.
2006 / Two free nav disc updates, any additional updates will be at the owners expense. Version 2, single disc navigation DVD.
2007 / Two free nav disc updates, any additional updates will be at the owners expense. Version 3, single disc navigation DVD.
2008 / Updated discs will work in the unit but are at the owners expense. No free updates. Version 4, two navigation DVDs.
2009 / Updated discs will work in the unit but are at the owners expense. No free updates. Version 5, two navigation DVDs.
2010 / Updated discs will work in the unit but are at the owners expense. No free updates. Version 6, two navigation DVDs.
Someone who takes the time to learn the system so they can use it.
Read Talon90's tutorial.
Reading is fundamental. I have had zero issues with my nav. Its been very helpful to me in the year I have had the car. Like any system it has its limitations. Streets and highways change patterns all of the time.
From a military perspective, the nav is but a tool to AID in navigation, not find places if you have no idea of where you are going.
Just a quick review for the slow guy.....(me).... I have a 2005 nav. system. If I understand correctly, I can update with any newer discs. However, the the newer versions come with two discs separating the Western and Eastern US...... correct?

Yup...starting with V4.0, the system had so many POIs that it needed to be put on two discs.
The GM (along with others) Nav system has been rendered obsolete by cutting edge GPS apps running on smart phones. For example, Google Nav shows more info, traffic, up-to-the-minute highway changes and syncs with other apps all at the same time... and it's free!
That would be fine if a smart phone had a large screen easily in view of the driver and was integrated with the HUD. This is the ongoing debate of Garmin, et al, vs the integrated OEM NAV. I have OEM NAV in two cars and Garmin for the third. Despite some of the advantages of the Garmin, I still prefer the integrated OEM. My only real objection is the cost of new discs, but I pay more than that for other things on the car. No perfect solution.
