LEO pulled my wife and I over this morning......again. It was morning traffic in the HOV (2 per veh minimum) Same LEO as the first time. To his credit, he was super courteous. But one more time would suck. Pulling over on a 6 lane bumper to bumper traffic highway is no easy task, plus it's borderline impossible to re-enter HOV traffic.
The guy did remember us; he said next time just turn your interior light on if you see us.
Why does he keep pulling you over, does he think there's only one person in the car?

It sounds as though he thought there was only 1 person in the car. By turning on your interior light he may be able to see the both of you. At least he was courteous about it. As for re-entering hov traffic, he should be assisting you.
You got pulled over for not having two people in the car, when you were both in it? Maybe whoever was in the passenger seat needs a booster seat
Never happened to me, but we're seldom in Corvette when we are HOVing. They may be subconsciously targeting you, as I believe there are people in Corvettes (or other two seaters) who try to use HOV-3, which is no longer allowed.
that's a smart thing to say ....having the interior light on at night is dangerous....the trooper should be worried about other things besides an HOV offender, which you are not....
So what's your point....he thought you were single, he was polite, and he let you go. Sounds like he was just doing his job........
That's not his job. His job is to PROTECT and SERVE. Pulling someone over in heavy traffic is more dangerous so he is definitely not protecting.
It seems to me that LEO lately are purely there to generate revenue and keep city workers employed. My respect for LEO is at 0% I have only gotten pulled over once and it was my fault, but it makes me curious when I see 5 cop cars lined up waiting for people to make the same mistake I did. Seems to me they know there is confusion on the road and they take advantage of it.
Someone needs to do something with this country before we have CCTV everyone and we start talking with an accent.
I love this country just as much as anyone but the government is TO BIG and no one cares. The government should be scared of the people, not the other way around.
Yeah, the stop was because he thought I was the only one in the car. My wife and I drive on the HOV every day, we work a block away from each other. From behind I can rarely tell if someone has a passenger or not, so I assumed pulling into the right lane and rolling down the window would have been good enough so he could see her. Didn't work......
Reference him doing his job, I agree, but it was the second time in a short period. 90% of the time we drive our MB SL roadster which is also a 2 seater, and we've yet to get pulled over (knock on wood).
From: "No matter where you go... there you are"...."You cannot drive a dollar bill". ...and remember... "D

His job is to enforce the law. That is what he is doing. I don't see an issue with this at all.
What's the big deal!! Maybe he has an assignment to target HOV violators on a semi-regular basis..85% of Troopers' assigments are traffic related in my area.
You should write a Complimentary Letter to his Department, comending his POLITE and COURTEOUS demeanor. We LEO's should get more positive feedback from the citizens we Serve and Protect!!!
IMO that's BS. It's not your responsibility to make sure both people are visable. It sounds like the cop needs an SUV in order to sit up higher so that he/she can see inside the vehicles. If the LEO can't tell whether their is more than one person then they should pull you over. And IMO this is mostly a revenue action and not a safety/protection action.
To the uninitiated, Route 66 in Northern VA has been HOV for probably 30 years and has likely been paid for 2x over with the HOV violation fines that have been given out over the past 30 or so years. Ditto for I395 and the Dulles tol road, also HOV.
Usual thing is to see a 3 to 6 police cars at the "main" entrance like at the beltway and 66 and at least one local car at each local entrance ramp. For added revenue, the beginning of the month brings additional scrutiny of windshields for expired county personal property decals.
Catching folks either knowingly or unknowingly violating or chancing the HOV law is as easy as taking candy from a baby. And I believe it is considered a moving violation, so expect jacked up insurance and points.
