I haven't read all 12 pages of the thread, but I'm hoping someone has made the distinction of a traditional 6 speed "automatic" transmission as in the 6L80's that uses a convertor, and the sequintal 6 speed dual clutch computer controlled manual transmissions that are generally controlled via steering wheel paddles and/or floor mounted shifter, ala Ferrari, GT-R, etc.
I'm guessing that a dual clutch manual 6 speed would add 6-10K to the price of the car.I would like to see that type of sequintial transmission available as an option on the Z06/ZR1, but not a traditional automatic "slushbox" transmission. For those who wish that type of tranny option, but the power of the LS7/LS9 powered cars, can always opt to purchase a Callaway optioned GS car.

I don think it would add that much, my Audi TT had the sequential DSG and it was priced at a very reasonable price, base is like low 30K I think. I would like to see all vettes with the DSG and a true sport mode, like in the Audis and all, "D" mode just like normal, "S" mode is still all controlled by the ECU but wont shift till its perfectly matched power rpm, push the shifter over and shift with it, you controlling it all and of course the paddles that controll all.
Don't quote me on this as I have no definetive proof, but I'm sure the manufacturing cost for that DSG you speak of is spread across several models and manufactures (to include at least VW) and that DSG isn't near as strong of a unit that would be required in a 500+ HP driveline.
Independent of the cost of this "dream option", if one were to be made available as an option I would consider that transmission, but NOT a traditional convertor based automatic gearbox

Just an uneducated guess, as the "racing" spec (read strong and durable) sequintial boxes sold by the likes of LG are 24K+ USD.

I love rowing gears, too, but don't equate with manliness. Have owned mostly manuals for 40+ years, but voted yes on a (good) Auto Z06. (although not aksed, also would vote yes on a vert ZO6).
As was stated, most exotics are now automatics (yes, I know that they are not GM A6s), as are championship drag racers and all Formula One cars. Most championship race drivers are secure enough in their manhood to drive those cars.
Think about this - if GM were to put an auto in a Z06, it would force an improvement in the state of the art, and that would be good.
For the guys tied up about manuals to the point of pugnacity, I recommend you also install a manual spark advance lever on your steering wheel - real men drove those back in the day, too!

Here is a diagram for those inquiring:
I hear that ABS is ordering one up right now and will retrofit it onto his car!

Its like if I said to you "Why are you divorcing your wife - cant you satisfy her or are you tired of beating her up?".
You are giving him 2 options, neither of which are positive.
