I think its quite the opposite. Throw 10 more HP in the base C6 and sell a car that requires nothing more to produce while taking the time to work more bugs out of the C7. I think its an ok idea and a great way to say good by to the C6. The 2003 sold OK for what it was.I really don't see the C7 being here in a 1213. I know some think it will but I don't see it.

And what rational reason do you have to think that?
Why do that if you cannot sell many of the new C6s you already have and people here whine daily about the need for a new generation? Frankly, I think they should bag producing the C6 in 2012 to build up demand (and gear up) for the 2013 C7.
BTW, I think you meant 2013, not 1213.

Unless the economy really improves, I could see NO 2012 Corvette and a 2013 C7 introduced. Why build a 2012 if there are so many 2011 Vettes sitting there unsold?
So how many 2011s are there still unsold? And the 2012 is already a done deal as many have reported, just no idea what the changes will be. I'm hoping for lots of left over 2011s in a few months and maybe with enough incentives offered, I'll break down and buy one.

AFAIK, they are still producing the 2011.
The 2012 may be a "done deal" but it certainly hasn't been produced yet. Why waste time and effort on a car that isn't selling?
So, you want GM to continue overstocking and underselling so you get a break?
A friend of mine was recently at the factory and saw a ton of C6 Vettes under plastic wrap. He was told that they were all unsold
2009's!!. The 550hp Camaro will be out in January of 2012. Today it was announced that the next generation Viper will hit the streets next year. THE C6 HAS RUN ITS COURSE! There is ZERO doubt in my mind that the 2012 C6 due out in 6 months will be the last run of the C6, and the C7 will be in showrooms sometime in the last half of 2012 as a 2013 model. I have heard this to be true from several very good sources including the GM of my local dealership whom just returned from a meeting with Chevy and was told just this.

Doesn't really matter to me what GM does. If they build more cars than they can sell, its means discounts. If I can buy a new car for less, fine with me. Once I buy it, I'll "lose" a ton, so the less I spend up front the better.
In the end, too much supply and too little demand is great for a consumer, bad for a company. Its that way with every thing. Do you wait until there is limited supply and high demand and pay top dollar for everything else?

The C6 will run eight model years, and this was the plan from before the start of C6 production.

I think all the speculation is fun. But, let's face it, GM has to keep the lid on the C7 as long as it can. I just hope they don't screw it up with a weaselly engine or something. Personally, I think they'll come out with a later C7 version of the ZO6...but, with less cubes. However, I;d be the last guy to discourage someone from getting an 2011 or 2012 simply because, they'll be the best of the run.
Just wondering why unsold '09's would be at the BG plant? Wouldn't they be sent to a particular zone or dealer where they were ordered? It has always been said every Corvette built is a 'sold' one, meaning to the dealer or a customer. Definitely a lot of speculation on the C7-GM has done a good job of keeping this one hidden from all the spies, at least so far. I'm still holding out for one, not wanting to buy a second car of the same generation; just not enough of a difference to justify the $ for the upgrade IMO.
As you can see from all these posts most of us have no idea what is coming. If some of these posts are more accurate than others we have no way to determine their veracity. The best case scenario:
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain. Just click the ruby slippers together and make a wish. Wait, maybe it's make a wish and click the ruby slippers together? I can't remember, you're on your own!!!
Yep, just look how long Chevy keep the ZL1 close hold and under wraps...
Whatever they are going to do, they better do it well. Especially with all the attention the CTS-V and Camaro have been getting. Compared to what is being done with these vehicles the Vette seems stuck in the sand.
The reason you hear nothing about the C7 is that unlike the Camaro the Corvette team is very very particular about who knows what. The people working on the C7 for the most part also have been working on the C6 and some even as far back as the C5. These are Corvette people. The few leaks they have had over the years, ever single person has been found and disciplined (fired basically).
Since I work on the program I know plenty, but I'm only a supplier so there is a lot I don't know. Rest assured you don't have to worry about things, the next car will not be a "roll-back" in any way from the current one.
The autorags are the ones who keep talking about V6's if you notice, no one at GM has said anything about a V6 just that Fuel Economy would be more important. But there are many ways to do that, examples we've seen on other cars (that may or may not be used on Corvette) are things like Direct Injection, 7 or 8 Speed Transmissions, Electric Power Steering, Lighter Chassis, Lighter Suspension Components, etc...
So what is the big news about major weight reduction efforts in the way components are actually put together?

Hmmm, that's an interesting story. Every Corvette built is ordered by a dealer. So how would the factory be sitting on unsold units? And if you think it's because dealers went under, when that happens other dealers pick them up. I supposed anything is possible - maybe a dealer ordered them and went under before they were delivered, but it's a very suspect explanation.

Here's my prediction and mine alone (no insider source):
The C6's Swan Song will be 2013 with a special 60th diamond anniversary package. The colour will be some shade of silver with special 60th emblems and interior badges. They will build as many as get ordered and will be available in all models.
As for 2012, look for LED lighting, minor interior tweaks, and two new exterior colours.
Not Corvette specific, but GM is focused on lowering mass in all parts. From the tiniest switch to things as large as the engine. The only thing that holds back suppliers is cost. If we can supply a part at a good cost that is light in mass we do it.
In chassis design it involves using more Ultra High Strength Steel and High Strength Steel instead of regular Steel. Sometimes it involves Aluminum and Magnesium parts (as you see today).
Did anyone go to the car show? No 2012 Corvettes there? More important ZR1.
Don't know which car show you're referring to but regardless, the 2012 Corvette won't be revealed until the C5/C6 bash at the National Corvette Museum at the end of April.

Anyone hear anything of a 2011 "Centennial Edition" coming in honor of GM's 100th anniversary? Is that what's going to be unveiled at the NCM?
