Default Wow Factor

Wow Factor??
With the C6 entering its 7th year of production I think the vette's "WOW" factor has been greatly reduced or even finished with most people. Yes it's still a great car and I enjoy driving mine but there are so many updated high performance choices available. Don't need to list them all but auto enthusiasts know them all.......

I believe GM really needs to get cranking and get the C7 into production before C6 sales slide completely off the map. The electronics are in dire need of updating with blue tooth, perfect ipod interface, etc. I recently installed a new in dash top of line Kenwood in my F150 and realized how dated my vette's electronic package is now.

This is NOT a BASH the C6 thread and shouldn't be taken as such. Simply saying that GM has played out the C6 design and urgently needs to get the C7 or a very very updated C6 in production. I'm not talking about the cosmetic changes GM did on 08's+ either. Yea yea they tossed in the LS3 and steering.. etc but there was no real WOW factor.

OK they've added the GS but sales are still very weak and will remain so imo. There NEEDS to be a GREAT reason for current owners to get drilled and upgrade their cars if GM wants to sell more vettes.

GM desperately needs a new and updated platform if they want to keep the Corvette a true American Icon....

What say you???

I'm literally typing this while listening to the "america still builds rockets" on t.v.Anyhow if you think the wow factor is gone in your vette think about all the cars most everyone else is driving that never had a W.F.

I still get the Wow factor whenever I go out to the garage and uncover my GS. I think the main reason sales are off is that many people just don't have $60,000 for weekend driver when they are struggling to pay their mortgages and day to day expenses. Yes it's getting about time for a new design but I was just at a auto show and my SUV's newer model looks same as my three year old one - which is also the same as the previous 3-4 years. Remember that this design is only 6 yrs. old - the C-4 ran 12 yrs. and that was when GM had money to throw into design.

Mine still wows the most ardent critic.....me.

To this day, when I park it,I still look back at it as I'm walking away......

That said,I'm as anxious as anyone to see what the C7 has in store.

I see your train of thought, Craig, but let me take the other track. If one of the intentions of GM was to attract new owners to the Corvette brand, I don't think the wow factor has gone at all. Witness: the pick up at dealership of "John in MD" yesterday. That was a WOW smile on both he and his wife if ever I saw one.

OK, going beyond that, granted there are tens of thousands of potential C7 owners who either have a Corvette now, or had one before. Got it.

But while the techno and other stuff that needs correcting is necessary, I look at the exterior of the C6 and do compare it to the "other cars," everything from the best and highest priced, to the least and lowest priced. Many have come a long, long way incl. "our" own Cadillacs, and even the Kias and Hyundais. But the point is, sitting a Corvette next to any one of those, design-wise, it looks like THEY got better, but the Corvette C6 is NOT old looking.

Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm looking thru some kind of rose colored (tinted orange) glasses. Maybe significant improvements in tech and engineering and interior can be done without changing everything else on the inside and outside. I don't know. But I don't get the feeling, just me again, that the whole car is ready for the pile of yesteryear vehicles.

I'm not purchasing any more toys in the next 1-3 years; in the meantime, I'm planning to enjoy my Z06. "This is my Wow Factor"

All i need now is an excellent iPod interface for my 2009 Nav!!!

i agree. BMW, M/B and P perfected this many years ago. you don't have to redesign/retool the entire car to make is better, more attractive and sell more units.

But the OP has a point about the dated electronics. I have an 07 and my 08 Expedition at least has an input for an iPod!!

I guess different things make up the wow factor for different people.

If they updated the C6 with the latest electronics... I would say wow.

If they could make the current platform 400 lbs lighter and add 40hp... I would say W O W!!!

As far as the appearance I will always say W O W!!!

I guess the Corvette can do with an update of the electronics but have to say this is not a wow factor for me. I believe with the current cost, looks, and power of the Corvette it still has the wow factor. A new C7 could provide a fresh wow factor for those current owners that are waiting for a new wow factor.
Park you Vette anyplace, drive down the road, park it in your driveway and it is obvious it still has the wow factor.

I will be pleasantly surprised if the C7 looks as good as the C6. I'd put money on not. The outside of the car will make or break the deal for most IMO.

I think they hit it out of the park with the C6. Still has the wow factor with me. The C5 was awsome, the C6 was even more awsome. If Chevy continues this trend, I'm sure the C7 will WOW me.

I might be in the minority but I would be pissed if GM released the C7 in a year or two or even three after dropping a large chunk of dough on a 2010 model only to have it replaced by a redesigned model. I guess I didn't do my homework and waited for the C7. My emtions got the better of me and said, "buy a Corvette now!"

Been realizing the somewhat dated electronic and interior layout myself for a little while now. However, I do like the fact that for the most part while sitting in it, I can squint a little and I'm now in my Z06 or ZR1 since they all favor greatly. But I will say, I love all of my vette, especially the exterior. Everyone still looks around and points when they hear and see it coming. The one exterior feature that another vette owner (C4 ha) once told me he didn't like, that I happen to like more than any, is the rear. But getting more to the OP's point, I'd like to see newer, overall technology in the C7 to keep it on the worldwide fast track. And with that, some tweaking and enhancing of the exterior, as well.
