For some reason I catch myself speeding in my c6 much more than I did in my c5. Not certain why, but my sense of speed is way off in this car.
In response to the OPS question: Go to court, dress nice, take a copy of your driving record, and pay attention to how others in front of you plea, and the judges reaction.

I got one 2 years ago, and while in court noticed all of the people saying how it wasn't their fault, improperly marked signs, yada yada. Everyone who made up some stupid excuse got hammered. I approached the bench, plead guilty, and explained I strive to keep a clean record, and got driving school - no pts, etc.

Professional and polite helped me alot... don't count on the cop not showing... they have set court days, and plan accordingly.

Around the Chicago area, 80 in a 55 is often just a little faster than keeping up with the traffic. Really.

Go to court you may need a lawyer. I don't know anyone who drives 55 on the hwy. These cops are making money for the jurisdictions they are in. The economy is bad that why you seeing them out more. More speed cameras too.

I certainly don't condone reckless driving. We must always drive safely, be courteous, and keep safe distance from other vehicles.

BUT let's all acknowledge that any Vette rolling down the road is a huge potential trophy for any traffic cop to want to pull over.

Follow these simple steps:
1. Mount a Valentine One radar detector in EVERY car you drive.
2. Fight EVERY ticket with a lawyer.....most times, you'll win.
3. If you are ever found guilty, lawyer should at least get you permission for traffic school.
4. NEVER take points on your license unless you've already tried steps 1 through 3.

The USA and all states are broke due to poor management and corrupt leadership. Speeding tickets are increasing in prevalence and dollar amounts as a hidden tax to take more money from all of us. Don't let that happen to you.

In FL you can only take the driving class to avoid points 5 times in your lifetime.

Was curious what some of you would do or if any of you have fought a ticket?
Speaking from the experience of driving for 30 years, I've had way more tickets than I care to admit, the vast majority of which happened years ago. DO NOT bet the cop wont show, ever; 99.999% of the time they show. Ticket clinic are a complete scam and waste of $$'s. They fail way more times than they are successful

My advice: take the class, learn something, move on and watch your speed. There's no free lunch with this kind of ticket.

p.s. Unless this was a wreckless, exhibition of speed, etc., don't waste your money on a lawyer. It's not that big of a deal. Save your money for a lawyer when you might actually really need to use one. I learned this the hard way too.

Traffic lawyers usually only cost $100 for each time you use them.

Much cheaper than paying hundreds of dollars for your ticket, and higher insurance premiums for years to come on all your vehicles.

I just got my latest ticket dismissed last week. And my driving record is totally clean.

The ticket clinic is a pretty sweet option, but their is no guarantee they will get it dismissed. They do guarantee you wont get points though. However, they also told me I might have to pay court costs as well, which could be up to as much as the ticket. Sounds like a pretty good option.
I have to decide do I want to just pay the fine and take 1 of my 5 elected driving classes to avoid the points, OR do I spend 100 bucks and take a gamble; maybe it gets dismissed and I'm just out 100, or maybe not and I'm out 100 plus double what the ticket would cost since it might include court costs.

That's the new question, just pay it, or do I gamble?

A lot of times this type of ticket can be brought down to a parking violation with a place like ticket clinic (no traffic school required) which means you would not see points on the ticket, sometimes they can even reduce the fine.

They guaranteed me no points. Obviously if htey get it dismissed then great, that's the best possible outcome. Worst case would be I pay them, the fine, and court costs, but still no points.

Georgia has a SUPER SPEEDER LAW. 79 in a 65 zone was $903.00.

Think about that the next time you drive through Georgia.

The cost of a good traffic lawyer is a lot more than that where I come from. Don't laugh at this story and it's 100% true. Back when I had my GTO (LS2 FULL bolt-ons, inc headers, 6spd manual) some punk in a 'Stang wanted a piece. We sat at the light and when it turned green I just let it fly. Left about 150' of two long black marks through 2nd on launch and huge smoke Well what I didn't see was a LEO that was in the oncoming traffic lanes. He saw me and flew over a 4" cement median to come after me. He didn't even notice the Mustang.

I pulled over when I noticed him behind me. He was pissed The very first thing he said was "are you lookin' to go to jail and have your can taken away?" Gave me the 3rd degree, as well he should. When he wrote me up, I didn't notice at the time, it was for misdemeanor that could have mandetory jail time and 30 day impound - it was reckless and the worst a person could get. I remained very polite the whole time.

After some checking, it was definetely time to lawyer up. Found a lawyer that had been a local traffic cop for years and specialized in traffic & criminal cases. He told me "yes, probably 30 days in the hole..." Turned out it carried the same penalties and points as a drunk drving ticket.

When the cop pulled me over I had bare feet, had my flip flops on the floor, I shift best in thin shoes or bare feet, yeah I know. I simply "explained" to my lawyer, before he took the case, that I was wearing flip flops and one of them got jammed between the gas pedal and the tranny hump, causing the gas pedal to become stuck. He looked dumbfounded and said "in all my years I've never heard such a thing, I'll take the case." He then asked me if I prove it?

I told him I'd have pictures taken of my foot with the flip flop on, foot down by the pedal, jammed like I said before. He said great. To make this long story a little shorter, the ticket was dropped to a speeding ticket, which was absolutely better than the alternative. I never set one foot in court, saw my lawyer only twice; once to interview and once to pay him gladly the $1500 bones...AND State Farm said my driving record was good enough to let this one speeding ticket slide, with ZERO effect on my insurance.

That was the last time I acted like an *** while driving. It really hit home with me, plus I'm told old to be doing **** like that. My driving record is once again squeeky clean and I plan on keeping it that way.

If this had been anything less, traffic school is really the cheapest and best bet. I'd be willing to bet a traffic lawyer is going to cost you a good piece more than $100. If it was that cheap and easy to get off, trust me, a ton of folks would be going that route. Best of luck.

I honestly don't know of any LEO who gives out summons's to raise $$ for the State etc... I'm not saying its not done, but I don't know of ANY LEO who gives out summons just to raise $$ for the State or County,,

You being an X-LEO, know well that you'd receive a visit/chat from your Lt. regarding the number of cites you write...

BTW, CHP motors are retiring @ 95% of their last year's salary. How is your retirement set up?

Former Deputy Sheriff here, If you were speeding then MAN UP and pay the ticket. If you weren't speeding then fight it. Don't waste the court's time by BS-ing them. Here in Kansas the officer does NOT have to show you the radar.

Also we didn't have quotas here in Kansas, I could write as many tickets as I wanted or needed too.

I love how everyone around here never does anything wrong and seems to walk on water untill there the ones posting a thread like this.

Get off the guys ***, everyone gets tickets, or atleast most do. God knows ive had my fair share when i was in my teens and early 20s.

I would definitly go to court and fight it. If the radar or laser did not have a actual readout fo the speed, then it wont stick. The cop just cant assume how fast your going.
