The 10 miles bit.. sounds like a bunch of BS. But from your own statements, the 90+mph speed seems plausible. I'd look into a cheap traffic lawyer.. and slow it down in the future. Whatever you were doing that had you "very aware of your surroundings" evidently wasnt working.
Pacing is very common and generally done in your blind spot. Funny in your post you never say "i know i wasn't going 90, i was only going ____". Sounds to me like you got busted and just hate that you did.
I know it can be used just never got a ticket from such.
My question is, if the officer paced me going such a speed why did he allow me to drive for 10 more miles? Did he just feel like going fast too? I find it hard to believe the an office would allow such a speed for so long, especially since he said he was behind me the whole time. It doesn't make since.
I'm sure you would want to stop a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed as soon as possible. Not allow him to continue and possible cause an accident.
In March of this year I was travelling north on I95 in my 2011 GS. A friend of mine was driving and we were returning from the ALMS in Sebring. My Escort/Passport 9500 xi was working perfectly. My friend was driving while I caught a few zzz's. I heard him say, "oh, no, a cop is behind us." The blue lights came on and a South Carolina Trooper in an unmarked cruiser pulled us over. My friend told me he was doing in excess of 90 MPH. apparantly he had been followed at greater than 80 MPH for over 12 miles but the trooper only pulled him over when he went over 90. The trooper gave us a lecture, said "You have a nice car here, keep it down in South Carolina" and gave us a written warning! This is an absolute true story. 80 in a 70 zone may not get the attention of a LEO when most other cars are doing the same (as both they and we were) but cruise over that and you're going to draw their attention. He did not have his radar transmitting or we would have picked it up. A radar unit is a sophisitcated combination of radio waves of a certain frequency (called a band) and a computer. A radar detector is a sophisticated (some more than others) radio receiver that is tuned to pick up the radar band being transmitted. No transmission, no detection. It's that simple and smart (not lazy) LEOs know this. You got caught, fight it if you wish as it is an adversarial system but be prepared to pay up.
I never pay em, get a lawyer and pay 150-200 to make it go away. Trust me it feels better to pay a lawyer to beat your ticket then it does to pay the ticket even if it cost more. No one likes to lose and paying a ticket is like losing.
This Saturday I was pulled over and given a ticket for 94 in a 60. The officer said he paced me but I find that hard to believe.
I am always aware of my surroundings and cops when driving. If the officer was pacing me (which I assume means behind me within 100 yards) why did it take him 10 miles of me driving over 90mph for him to finally decide to pull me over? Wouldn't you think that any officer would want to pull a car over traveling that speed as soon as possible, you know cause of other drivers safety?
In my opinion, I think the officer is full of Sht and I will be having my lawyer fight this one.
It appears to me that quite possibly the officer was giving you a chance to slow down to close to the limit. (see bolded) I know a lot of LEOS and most are decent people. A little spirited acceleration for a short period might get overlooked, doing it for 10 miles and possibly longer if you were not stopped. You deserve it, stop crying, man up and pay. (lawyer or judge)
FWIW I'm a lead foot and have had my share of roadside chats with drivers of cars with flashing lights!
So, during this 10 mile adventure.... were there no freeway entrances that the officer may have used?
I see them all the time sitting on the on-ramps waiting for people to fly by, then they merge in, sit back a few cars and wait for enough time to have elapsed then make their move. Never once using their radar.
I'm sure if you're really interested that the officer took plenty of notes about the events that transpired while sitting in the car after you drove away. -- This is what they are paid to do as a witness for the court, so when you attempt to fight the ticket they have a complete history that was documented while the events were fresh in their mind.
Either you were speeding or you weren't. If you were doing the customary 9-10 over and he pulled you over then I would fight it.
If you were doing 90+ then take your punishment.
Upon cross examination it could be easy to catch the officer in some false statements depending on how he paced you etc. Did he pull onto the highway and have to catch you? How far did he have to travel to begin the pacing? How far were you paced from that point at the alleged 94mph? All that could add up to a mathematical impossibility. Any decent lawyer will beat the charge if it's BS.
i believe it. I can't count the number of times i've whizzed by a camped out cop doing 10ish over and they havn't pulled me over. (actually i can, 4 times) I feel like vettes get a bit of leeway because the LEO knows that a vette driving 73 in a 65 is driving *well* within it's limits and they don't associate a vette with a punk-*** kid (muahahaha)

First, he is a traffic officer and has K, Ka, and probably Laser (my radar, 9500 ix, never went off) Second, he said he was following me for almost 10 miles. Last, it wasn't until I slowed down for over a minute that he finally pulled me over.

I guess only you know how fast you were going. If you were not going 90 then fight it. If you were doing 90 then you deserve it and paying for your stupidty is part of being a man. I have no respect for people that use attorneys to cover up their mistakes. Man pants is right!
I really doubt he would allow you to do 90 for 10 miles. There would be an extrem liability on his part if something happened. I could see him following you for a period of time and when you got on it he pulled you over. If you can just send the ticket in with a pre-determined fine then do it. If you were in NY I think anything under 20 you can send in. 20-30 over is 6 points on your licence and fine of $360-$600. Court date manditory. In any case I would get a Lawyer. You could get a non simpathetic Judge that frowns on speeding.
Be glad you are where you are. In Illinois as of 1/1/2011, 30 over gets you class 2 misdormeanor, 1 year suspension of lisc. and I believe $1500.00 fine!

Maybe you doubt it but it is never the less true in my case. If only my friend had picked up the unmarked cruiser. If only, if only, if only.......Not surprisingly the Trooper did not put the observed speed of over 90 mph on the written warning. Guess he didn't want the supervisor to see that! As a former LEO I can't say I blame him.
It sounds like the officer was doing a odometer clock on you. If he was then he might have been as far back as 1/2 running the pace. When doing the odometer clock most officers will do a couple of clocks to be sure of your speed.
If the glove don't fit!! You are only guilty if you lose in a court of law, just pay a lawyer and move on. In Texas you can keep setting things off for 1 year until you have to go to court, by then most officer don't show up and the ticket is thrown out, if they do show up the lawyer will beat them.
I gotta tell you, I'm more concerned about you going 35 over on roads that I may be driving on. Don't know where it happened, or under what circumstances, but I can only hope you had the good sense to not do it in traffic.
when I followed someone for a long time it was usually to either get more offenses or to get more video or PC
